Is this it for Colton?

I don't expect a response to this part given the raw nature of it (please don't respond to this post), but not only was he responsible for the Billet labs auction, he also confirmed he is the effectively the head of HR in the newest video, which makes him responsible for the Madison situation, however much of it is true.

even if half of the allegations are true, its still concerning to be fair.

Colton may have made a serious mistake.

But the Madison situation still has to be addressed and whoever the members of Senior Management are that are being called out for being essentially "Abusive/harassing" have to answer for the situation and most importantly. Receipts.

He shouldn't be, it was obviously just a mistake. I, my coworkers, people, forget to send attachments, CC the wrong "Smith" or "Jones" on an email distro, that stuff happens all the time. Linus, no one should be fired for anything going on right now regarding the GN video.  Everyone can improve if they want to. Speaking for myself at my job as well, it's just life.

The Madison stuff is prob not going away though, so that will need to be addressed at some point.

I think that Colton needs additional support as he is juggling allot at LMG, with the current controversy regarding HR issues, I think that LMG needs to recruit a dedicated HR/Personnel Support person to ensure that issues which may happen are given the time that's needed.

What do you think?

You never fire someone for unintentional mistakes, that's how you foster fraud, cover-ups, etc. What you do instead is fix the mistake and figure out how to prevent it from happening again.

That being said, I think someone should fire Colton out of a giant circus cannon.

I hope they don't respond. The timing of all this seems to be too suspect. One trash fire at a time.

As I recently saw one of the $5000 dollars home upgrade. It isn't Coltons fault, when the monoblock didn't have the inventory sticker on it.

Verbatum: Glassdoor: 27th July 2022.

No proper/or explained HR system. Sexist remarks, coded language, and harassment were common place. Inappropriate actions, comments, and discussions frequently occurred. Including discussion about employees bodies, appearance, clothes, and wealth. Upper/middle management frequently misuse power. No way to report most incidents without issue, since the HR team was ALSO upper management. Feedback was consistently harsh and not constructive. Inappropriate language was commonly used while giving feedback. Meetings with unbalanced power dynamics were common place. Gaslighting situations frequently occurred. Unbiased 3rd parties were never present, or easily able to be requested in these meetings. Lack of proper communication between management and employees. Outside ventures frequently frowned upon, or limited by the company.

Consejos para la Dirección

Stop dismissing complaints because "everyone is friends here" it's a workplace, not a group hangout session. Get a proper HR team and take reports of harassment and inappropriate conduct seriously. Don't dismiss employees complaints.

I get the inside joke of it all but time and place is wrong. From what can be gleamed by the vid, Colton is not the sole person who caused this issue and thus it wouldnt make sense.

The problem here is not that people make mistakes. A common saying is that only people who don't work are the ones who don't make mistakes. I don't think we have the necessary information to decide what is the right course of action here and nor should we, it is an internal issue that has to be dealt with within LMG.

What I'll say is that a good leader does not throw it's people under the bus (or even joke about it) but takes ownership of the problems that they make and reflect on him/herself to see how things could have gone wrong and what can be done to remedy the situation. My personal opinion is that Colton has made mistakes, but having worked in a very busy environment for a couple of years, and having heard the concerns from some of the staff regarding the working conditions I find it completely plausible that these mistakes were a result of being overworked and always having to jump from one issue/project/fire to the next one.

I hope LMG can pull off what they have stated in the latest video (even though it was a sterile statement with some distasteful product/store ads and jokes that I think should not have been put in it considering the tone of it and that people were expecting a serious video from them). Nonetheless I'll stop consuming their content for now and check back in a couple of months to see if/how things have improved. (I know my YT premium views worth almost nothing but it's all I can do to voice my disapproval of where things are going).

I understand that LMG is in the process of changing it's structure because the old "we're all friends here" thing just doesn't fly anymore with a company this size. There needs to be proper onboarding, knowledge transfer, escalation paths, trainings in place and they have to understand that things that flew before won't necessarily do it in the future and in the corporate world you have to adhere to very strict rules.

I know that working culture in north america is different to what we have in the EU, but upper management has to understand why it is important to keep to a 40 hour working week and respect the employees' right to disconnect after work. This is how you can retain your employees and ensure that their work performance doesn't decrease.

If Colton actually were fired for this, then LMG really would be a toxic workplace. Firing people for honest mistakes, even major ones, is not a decent way to respond. It doesn't resolve the mistake, denies reasonable human decency, and creates a fearful work environment where people are constantly worried about getting fired if they make a mistake.

I like that he apologized to Billet Labs. The community isn't the injured party (even though many acted like it). I'm sure they've apologized to Billet Labs privately already. Feels like a private matter that I don't really need to be privy to, but on the other hand I realize the community will never shut up about it until it was made public with the receipts (emails) shown, so I also appreciated that.

I also think that the company has grown a little too fast in the last year or two, resulting in a lack of experience and time in managing/training new hires.

This growth will probably slow down after this drama or in the worst case scenario reverse given how much money they lost so far (300k+ from floatplane alone and propably several times that from merchs+views+sponsor...)
