6800XT with a 650w PSU

AnimeAddict7

Hey everyone. So I have been eyeing the 6800xt on amazon but I know the recommended PSU is 750. I have a Ryzen 5 5600g and a 650w PSU. It’s a prebuilt from NZXT so if I change the PSU I lose my warranty. I was also looking at the 6800 non XT but it looks like the 6800XT has a much better performance. So my question is… is it ok the undervolt the 6800XT and use it with my 650wPSU with the intent to eventually get a higher wattage PSU? I would hate to buy the 6800 non xt for only 10$ less than the 6800XT and lose out on that performance. I’m very new to PC gaming and have only had 1 GPU a 1060 6GB and this is my first real gaming PC. I would appreciate the help. Thank you for taking the time to read this very new to PC’s users post

6800 XT uses around 255W at stock. As long as your PSU has 2 SEPARATE 8-pin or 6+2 pin power connectors and not a single PCI connector that splits to two.. you should be fine.

They consume around 300w stock so you can actually overclock and youll still be good especially since the 5600g is pretty low power

though i also reccomend overclocking the 5600g with a 1.4v medium/no llc, should be able to get somewhere around 4.7-4.8ghz allcore

Ram oc is prefferable but not completely neccesary, cezanne can do around 5000 ddr4 1:1 fclk so lotta room for performance improvements and tinkering but past 4600 ram oc becomes pain, so may wanna settle on just tightening trfc trc trrd-l/s and set tfaw = 1

put your pc into pcpartpicker and see the estimated wattage, then multiply by 1.5

Good rule of thumb, but not something to live by. Quality of the specific power supply matters more than wattage does.

I ran a 12900k and a 6800 xt off a SF600 for a while. 5800x/6800xt before that.

What power supply did NZXT put in that build? If it's one of their C Gold series, I wouldn't worry about undervolting the 6800 xt at all. If it's the H1 series, or the C bronze series, I'd keep an eye on it, but not necessarily worry right away about it.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Oh right its a prebuilt

Yes check what psu it is and give the model here

What really matters is the 12v rail rating cause thats what powers most of your system

If you arent sure about model just take a picture of the wattage table

If you have the original receipt or an email about the computer, hopefully it says a model and not just "650W Gold."

Could also take the back side panel off and see if there's any markings you can see, that might help.

Ive found no images of the wattage table so just assume its the same 648w as the c650

In that case you are good to overclock both the 6800xt and 5600g

It's going to be on the other side. I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's either a tier A or a tier B power supply. Either one of them with a 5600g and a 6800 xt I'd run. If you get weird shut downs or weird behavior, then I'd look at under volting the 6800 xt.

Out of curiosity, what prebuild was this? SFX-L power supply in what *looks* to be a mostly full sized ATX case?

This is a pre built from NZXT themselves and it’s in the H510 Flow case

It'd be nice to get confirmation from someone like @--SID-- on this power supply or not, but to my dumb eyes, I see that as the "h1 series" on this list.

https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/

Which puts it at either tier A or tier B. It also seems like that's a Seasonic SGX rebrand, which keeps it at either tier A or tier B depending on when it was made.

You do realise that if you got a garbage 12v rail or a multirail you are fucked right? Doesnt matter if its tier a but the 12v rail can only do 300w and not the rated 650w

if the thing cant even power the card the damn tiers dont even matter anymore, and psus with 12v rail being equal to psu rating tend to be of quality anyways unless proper reviews and customer reports say otherwise (reliability issues), and yes i have personally verified this myself with the used psus ive bought, oem 3$ trash has garbage 12v rating (literally "500w" psu but 12v rail can only do 10a) while quality used 10-20$ units have 100-50w below psu rating on the 12v, some have equal 12v and psu rating but pretty rare at that price, only one being the rexcool rex iii 700w with a 58a 12v at 16$ but dont have one atm, just this 700w 85+ tundra with 54a (648w)

Once again, this is why I asked Sid for clarification and double checking. It'd be nice to have someone that knows what they're talking about to confirm if it's a SGX rebrand. If it is, you're way too worried about the table.

I mean if the 12v rail is trash you arent gonna power anything anyways ¯\_ (ツ) _/¯

dont got any experience with electronics shit yet so no clue how to tell quality by components but again i still dont belive in specsheet crap if the used psus ive bought are anything to go by

and i solely used the 12v rail rating as the quality check on these psus btw didnt actually look for reviews and customer reports problably just due to idiocy or outright unavailable so uhh evaluating psus by 12v rating is a solid way of telling quality especially when paired with reviews and customer reports for any psus with no documentation on tierlists or tierlists being outright wrong and the psus actually being reliable units, again got the 3 <20$ used psus as evidence here
