6800XT with a 650w PSU

AnimeAddict7

What about power spikes?   The Rx 6800 and 6900 series are probably the worst card series for power spikes.   That's probably why ppl are recommending 750W or higher and a quality brand/model (i.e. good specs/power delivery etc.).

Yeah, you're fine.

Why 750W+ and why platinum only?

Just looked up a few figures - I was way off base 🤥😳 Those AMD cards aren't as power-hungry as their Nvidia competitors.

That’s a tier A PSU. A very good unit. I ran for a long time on a tier A SF600 with a 5800x and 6800xt and then a 12900k with that same graphics card and power supply. I didn’t have any shut down issues related to power draw.

As far as the worst series for spikes? Remember the transient spikes of Ampere when it first came out?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Good rule of thumb, but not something to live by. Quality of the specific power supply matters more than wattage does.

I ran a 12900k and a 6800 xt off a SF600 for a while. 5800x/6800xt before that.

What power supply did NZXT put in that build? If it's one of their C Gold series, I wouldn't worry about undervolting the 6800 xt at all. If it's the H1 series, or the C bronze series, I'd keep an eye on it, but not necessarily worry right away about it.

The R9390X I had for 7 years was fed by a 550W platinum PSU. It also had to feed i7-7700K. Not sure how this helps, but a quality 650W power supply should be fine.

Hey everyone. So I have been eyeing the 6800xt on amazon but I know the recommended PSU is 750. I have a Ryzen 5 5600g and a 650w PSU. It’s a prebuilt from NZXT so if I change the PSU I lose my warranty. I was also looking at the 6800 non XT but it looks like the 6800XT has a much better performance. So my question is… is it ok the undervolt the 6800XT and use it with my 650wPSU with the intent to eventually get a higher wattage PSU? I would hate to buy the 6800 non xt for only 10$ less than the 6800XT and lose out on that performance. I’m very new to PC gaming and have only had 1 GPU a 1060 6GB and this is my first real gaming PC. I would appreciate the help. Thank you for taking the time to read this very new to PC’s users post

I know you have already received the help you needed, but I want to chime in and say that I've been running a 6800 XT and a 10400F on a 650W PSU for many months now without issue. My PSU is the EVGA 650 GT (80+ Gold). The 10400 and 5600G should have similar levels of power consumption according to this chart from Techspot:

Hi everyone I know this thread is kinda old but I have a similar question I have the exact same S650w psu from nzxt and I believe the same prebuilt pc  the NZXT h510 flow prebuilt pc which was a limited edition prebuilt pc. Anyway I got a 7800xt for Christmas and I'm curious if my pc will be able to handle the GPU with a s650w PSU and a 10400f (I'm planning on upgrading to a 11900kf later) so I'm curious if my pc will be able to handle a 7800xt with a 11900kf/10400f or should I upgrade to a 750w PSU. I believe my PSU right now is a 80+ gold.

Thanks
