Hotel Pricing for LTX 2023

Esemes16

I found that hotels from Friday to Monday is costing about $1500 for something within 15-20 minute walking distance to the hotel, is there something I'm missing to getting a better rate? How is everyone else planning accommodations?

Have you tried restarting it?

Vancouver is expensive, you are probably better off looking for an airBnB or similar a much further distance away and taking either an Uber or the skytrain to the convention area. Like a decade ago I went to Vancouver and stayed downtown and it was just a shade over $700 a night

I'm okay paying the price, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything that could have cut it down.

You can role the dice and wait till you are closer to the date, I think the general rule of thumb is about 60 days out is when you can get the best rates, but of course then you are playing the game of making sure you can still get a room

60 days is a good rule, I'll keep that in mind thanks! Though for this I may not want to risk it.

We went down the Airbnb route and booked a condo with parking for the whole weekend. Can't say it was much cheaper than hotels, but I'd like to think we have better facilities and freedom at the airbnb, wasn't too far from Gastown too. £1,250 in total, checking in on Friday and out on Monday. Just under 20min walk to the LTX venue.

The parks nearby are nice this time of year, and considerably cheaper! 🤪

(on a slightly more serious note, I'd like to go to this, but prices are not feasible for me at this time)

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

Excellent suggestion. Waterfront skytrain station is an easy walk to the convention center, you can look at any hotel or airbnb near a stop along the canada line, expo line or even at the other side of the seabus, Longsdale Quay as an easy transit option. This also gives you the opportunity to stay in a neighborhood with cool food or late night options. Save some money to spend on a GPU upgrade 😉

I just paid for a hotel a half mile from the convention for 290 a night, taxes not included and paid just under 1388. Thursday-Sunday night. But this might be because it's through my union-specific rates. I am staying at the Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront.

Just stay outside of the downtown core. You can get hotels in Coquitlam, for example, for $450 for the same amount of time. It's only a 45 minute trip into Waterfront. There's no real reason to spend that kind of money, and downtown Vancouver isn't particularly nice.

With the state of the homeless problem right now, definitely not something I'd recommend.

Managed to get this for only $377/night for 3 nights at the Residence Inn and it's only 21min walk from the convention center.  It's pretty decent considering slightly less gets you 'basic double queen' type rooms.

Can attest. It's basically a hellhole at night. Lots of drunks, drugs, homeless, and fights can break out at any moment around the downtown core.

I haven't been there in about 10 years, but I've heard it's gotten significantly worse than when I was there last. Lots of random violence. Sad, really, but that's what you get when you neuter the police.

That's a far smarter idea, especially since there's very few places that aren't close to public transit, and the GVRD's public transit is so solid that it won't take you much time at all to get downtown.

Yep a security guard was stabbed with a needle at Main and Hastings today. Someone was shot multiple times in broad daylight a block away on Sunday. This on top of the place looking like hell with garbage, piss, and feces littering the streets of Downtown.

To the people going to LTX, I'm not a tour guide. Just a local telling the truth.

I'm going to the Whale LAN so I want to be close enough to walk without having to run for it. I might eat the cost for a more expensive one for a few days, then stay a few extra days at a further hotel?

Have you tried restarting it?

Those figures are crazy.

I think back in the day I spent around $100/night (split between two people) for an AirBNB when I went to LTX in 2019.

In a lot of cases single day stays are stupidly priced.
If you're able to rent a car then that might end up being more sensible.

Heck at the extreme if lodging prices are crazy enough you might be better off buying/renting a gaming laptop.

I ended up having to change my stay and had to re-book. I was able to move to the Moda Hotel, a bit more expensive but a bit closer.

Edit: moved again, found for a bit more expensive another slightly closer hotel at the Blue Horizon Hotel

I booked a home on VRBO for thursday to tuesday for $1400 CAD. originally i had booked a similar home for the same tIme period for $800 CAD but they delisted the property to cancel my reservation and relist it for that price nightly.

It seems like a lot of these rental properties have raised there rates knowing how sold out everything is in the area.
