Where I used to work we had one of these too. It was originally used for certification work so was fully maintained, but as the years went on the work moved to other sites and it was kept around for development work, where standards based testing wasn't needed. It's easy to knock the foam tips when moving around inside, and the modern trend is to use polystyrene protectors which also look nice. Certainly for investigating product performance, you don't need a standards based fully calibrated chamber. Just having a radio quiet environment is a useful resource in itself.

The LTE part isn't wrong as Linus seems to think, LTE is a standard and 5G is the generation.

 

LTE is a standard by 3GPP, and a few standards(like LTE Advanced and Advanced Pro) is a 5G radio standard.

The first three digits are a BC area code, but the number doesn't bring anything up on the Googles so it's not a publicly posted business number.

They are in fact making a testing workshop, so that part isn't clickbait. I assume they did actually pay $45K for the foam, they didn't post receipts like they sometimes do on screen but foam like that is pretty expensive, so I don't doubt it. And they do actually have the foam, so it's not like they didn't show it off. Even in the "Building $1,000,000 Computer", same thing, it's actually worth that much, and although they don't get to keep it iirc they did show it off, so it's fair game.

 

Clickbait is such a hot topic word that's being misused so much, so let's not continue down that path.

It is clickbait. LTT consciously chooses the titles and thumbnails for their videos so they get more clicks. So the purposeful choice of putting $45,000 in the title, instead of an actual description to what the video is even about, is baiting. Clickbait doesn't have to be downright deception or lying. It just makes you look like the tabloid magazines in checkout lines or TMZ. 

 

LTT uses clickbait to gain more revenue so LTT can grow and benefit the watchers. But now it's counterproductive as it's driving away core audience members and the videos become solely supported by the use of clickbait and the content knowingly featured to get more views. So now your revenue and choices mainly revolves around Youtube's algorithm. LTT is diversified though and has many revenue streams outside of Youtube like merch and floatplane so I don't see why they have such a hyper fixation on money.

I'm not sure what you'd want the alternative to be? "We got ghosted by a company who used pictures they didn't have permission to use and subsequently got sent the incorrect foam pieces which we'll reuse for a different purpose"? Doesn't seem to have the same ring to it...

 

Also, I'd argue it does tell you what the video is about. In the thumbnail it shows Linus holding some sort of foam apparatus, so a keen viewer would see and assume "Okay, they paid $45K for the blocks in the thumbnail, and got ghosted by the seller". Aside from the fact that LMG didn't actually pay for the foam (at least not yet), you're given a pretty good idea of what the video is about. It's entertaining, people like seeing super expensive tech that only the 0.01% can buy, it's for a similar reason why MrBeast is so popular.

 

So once again, not clickbait.

Not orbitals, energy levels. Visualizing energy levels with actual orbitals is nonsensical. Yes orbitals are more accurate, but you can't visually explain energy levels with them unless the audience knows what orbitals are and which lumpy shape is higher energy, vs the Bohr model where an electron in a higher ring has more energy. It's a five second aside in a video for laypersons, not a university physics lecture.

Because the title is a lie. They didn't actually pay for it yet, see 7:47. Also business transactions of that size are very rarely conducted with credit cards. Wire transfers are much more common but are also much more difficult to reverse.

Rapido Trains makes amazingly detailed HO Scale models which would be good for a camera testing chamber, lots of little vents, handrails and decals; they also specialize

This is the first topic that actually something that I have dealt with where I work we have a RF(Radio Frequency) Shielded Room. Basically we have it like a vault. Work as a Digital Forensic Examiner and we use it when we power on phones and if can't get phones into airplane mode to prevent remote wiping. It is all the paneling and no foam. I'm not sure how much it cost since the lab was built before I started but I know it was expensive since there is a vestibule and two off rooms so we can have a phone on exit one and not expose the phone left in the room to signals. I'm sure it was more than 2 million. Most places will just use a faraday box for phones but having a room is so much nicer to work in. Think were one of the few that has a full room. Would love to see videos covering Digital Forensics from LMG but the software and tools are so expensive and most only sell to law enforcement and have NDA's on how they work.
