My thoughts

 Frankly I believe this is worse than the "dropping the 4k" debacle and feels like pushing up the cost of the perks which we are already paying for instead of giving the ad tier slightly less quality on a screen that can't even show the difference. I know the money has to come from somewhere. Seeing as Premium users already put more into the ecosystem than the ad tier, feels like a slap in the face is all.

That's a bad time on YouTube's behalf to raise prises. Should have waited at least a cool down period since the 4k announcement.

 

I did read a while back they do a YouTube premium lite version in the EU for €6.99 which just removed ads without the other perks, this price seems more resonable and a better deal as I doubt many use the offline features. Hopfully they roll it out into other countries. $22.99 is very steap.

That's the family plan, though.

The individual subscription remains at $12.
If there two of you in the household, the family plan is still cheaper than buying it twice separately.

Well this is annoying.

 

Since I naughtily used a VPN to get my Premium from a cheaper country my family plan is going up from $1.17 to $4.56 a month! 

That's a 4X increase

If they paywalled 4k I wonder what reason creators would have to film in 4k in the first place, it's more expensive and it wouldn't reach most of their audience anyway.

Cool. Doesn't really make me more likely to buy your product when the price is raised with vague claims of maybe it will be better but I think a lot less people will riot over this than if 4K cost money

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Well that's good cos there's no way I would ever pay for YouTube Premium as long as YouTube is owned by Google and harvesting user data.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Maybe I could see this being paywalled in a way if, they actually upped the bitrate for start. It still looks trash no matter the res. When I watch certain darker content, detailed game, fast motion.. image falls appart. No proper HDR support, no 120fps. So unless they improve all of this it will stay bad. 

AV1 is coming but still both Twitch and YT need higher bitrate for start. For Twitch being more gaming it's lame how they have lower bitrate cap even.

I received a message from YouTube, they are increasing our premium by $5 a month bring my family plan to $23 a month to $276 from $216. YouTube is a platform for content creators the offer no other services or contents.

They offer you the content the creators produce, and this is how those creators get paid.

 

If you don't think it's worth it, cancel premium and resign yourself to seeing some ads.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

Usually the forum works on a question/answer type of thing.  While we appreciate you letting us know your YT service is going up, is there a specific ask here?

That's not true, if the creator makes content that isn't unsalted plain crackers they will get demonetized

You are literally posting on the forum for a YouTube content creator. Even most of the content on streaming services like Netflix and Hulu is not actually produced by those services, it's made by someone else and they license it. 

 

Hosting all of that content costs YouTube money, a lot of it actually, and they do it because they want to make a profit. Full-time content creators like Linus also need to make a living, they aren't just providing everyone with free entertainment out of the goodness of their own hearts. 

 

Again, if you don't think what's being offered is worth the price, cancel. Bitching here won't change anything.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe.
