7700x or 7900x for 3440x1440 gaming?

I'm building a new rig and I have an opportunity to choose between those two CPUs for a good price and I'm not sure wich one to pair with a 3440x1440 monitor.

At 1080p, youtube tests show that they have similar results. I wonder if it's woth to get the higher core count one.

Thanks in advance.

5800x3d

Far cheaper overall (no need slow pricey ddr5, no need overpriced x670) and basically matches these new cpus in gaming performance due to the massive cache. You just need to pair with a decent b550 like the a pro/aorus pro p and cheapest 3200 cl16 ddr4 (ram speed dont affect 5800x3d above 3200 due to massive cache) and you get the same performance for less

And no more cores isnt neccesary for gaming, most top out at 8 cores and always prioritize singlethread over multithread. Also high resolution gaming depends more on the gpu than it does the cpu

I'll say this, if you could find a good price for CPU+board+RAM combo, then go for Ryzen 7000 series, otherwise go with 5800X3D.

Anyway, 7700x is better for gaming than 7900x.

But do keep in mind, in higher resolutions such as 1440p/4K, GPU is much much more important than the CPU whereas lower resolution such as 1080p 144+ fps requires faster single core performance CPUs instead of GPU.

My ram sticks are 2400 Mhz with high latency. Don't think that I should invest my money on this, tbh. But I appreciate your answer, thanks bro!

I was thinking about that actually. I appreciate it, friend! Thanks.

Kind of funny that your going from an intel 7700k to a AMD 7700x if you do go that route 😛

Generally unless you actually use the cores for something like video editing enmasse or something with the usecase for them, just stick with the 7700x. If you can wait another few months, 7800x3D Will more then likely bring an asswooping, but thats a TBD date.

If you want something that you can direct drop, then you could get a 7700x, sell it when the 7800x3D comes out and take a bit of a loss.

If you are tight on cash, def recommend the 5800x3d+  buy a good quality b550/x570 board (Check Hardwareswap, sometimes ebay can be good as well) and if possible Single rank 2x16 3200-3600mhz ram. I prefer stability so i almost always say just stick with 3200 mhz as its not that big of a deal as people make it out to be.

Value your money and what youll get out of it 🙂 Dont just spend cause you can, that will come back to bite you in the end.

The higher the resolutions, the less relevant the CPU becomes. You'll be mostly GPU bound. Put your money towards a higher end GPU and go with 5800x3D or have a look at Intel's current CPU lineup.

That being said, I've seen some YouTube sponsors where Micro Center apparently give you free RAM with a Zen 4 purchase. If that's an option where you live, you might want to consider it.

Unless the good price you say is the Microcenter promotion that gives you a free 2x16GB DDR5-5600 CL36, essentially making the CPU+RAM cost $150 less, I wouldn't even consider Zen 4 CPUs. I would either go with Alder Lake for an all-rounder CPU, with the 5800X3D for a gaming only CPU, or wait for Raptor Lake.

Raptor Lake might also get some good promotions on Microcenter too if you wait for it. The 12700K was sold for $300 shortly after launch there.

Indeed it's funny. And actually I went with the 7700x.
