The build quality and the battery life are the ones that caught my attention. Personally I like phones that feel like they have some heft to it due to metal construction, plus, the iPhone 5 practically dies on me after 15 hours of moderate usage with LTE and Bluetooth on.

My favorite new features for the HTC One M8 are the screen gestures (waking with double tap, show blinkfeed, etc.) and the improved battery life. More battery is more better!

I've always had my eyes on the HTC one because it's just one that makes sense (i.e. front facing, non-crappy speakers. Lol @ cup method). Now the M8 is out having a slightly larger screen which doesn't show signs of colour loss when viewing it at certain angles (love it). That and I think it's time to replace my old Coral 645 haha.
