Finished new build but 0 power

suggestions so far: front panel pins plugged in the other way, screwdrivering power pins

other stuff I'll try: test psu with a pin

I guess that's it for now, hopefully can work it out from there

MSI b450m mortar max

Ryzen 5 3600

rx 560 2gb

gskill aegis 3200c16 2x8

120gb m2 ssd

1tb hdd

corsair cx550m

 

I connected all the cables as best as I could from the instructions but nothing happens after pressing the power button. I have no clue if the motherboard is supposed to have standby lights but I see 0 of it, nothing gets any power. Dead silence after pressing power button.

 

CPU had some bent pins that I fixed but they weren't that bad, like just needed a little bit of straightening, other than that I can't point at anything because the rest of the build is brand new so unless psu is dead out of box I can't think of anything else. First time I had this with a build, guess it was bound to happen.

 

What can I do to figure out what's wrong exactly?

 

Doublechecked cables and reseated ram but no luck. Maybe I completely forgot something and it ends up being an easy fix, dunno at this point thinking about sleeping on it and seeing how it goes tomorrow.

It is hard to tell from the one picture.

 

The connections on the Powersupply seems to be very few.  Is the large 24 pin connected from the motherboard?

Looking at your picture, I don't see any ram on that mobo.

The 24 pin is non modular on that PSU.

Honestly I thought the same but the CPU and 24 pin are preattached and GPU doesn't need power, only needed to add a cable for the HDD

It's there, just has no heat spreader and is edge-on to the camera (also it's listed in the parts list, so I assume OP knows it's needed).

Try unplugging the front panel connectors and touching the two power switch buttons with a screwdriver.

Your front panel connectors are plugged in wrong, the white writing on the connectors should not be visible on top, on the blank side there will be an arrow indicating which pin hole is the positive connection on the POWER SW for example you need to flip the connector to where the blank side is facing up. Make sure you have the front panel connectors plugged in correctly and try it again.

Power SW pins aren't polarized; doesn't matter how it's plugged in, since it's just connecting the two pins.

 

LEDs do matter, however, but that won't stop motherboard from starting.

It depends on the board if they matter or not, I always plug them in the correct orientation regardless(its a good habit) but yes sometimes it does not matter, sometimes it does, I have worked with a few boards where it has mattered.

This is unrelated to this build but is that why the idle light of my power led isn't on after I changed mobo on my main build? The plugs are in the correct spot but I plugged them on with the writing on the top and everything works except the standby light of the power button.

 

As for the current issue, I did try them flipped the other way but I maybe plugged them in the wrong spot cuz I didn't see which one was which so I'll try again, thanks for the suggestion

Does this also go for the front audio cable? Because I plugged it in with the writing on top

Okay, PSU turns on with paper clip so I think I can rule it out. Next is the power pins for front panel

None of these worked. Is it pretty much confirmed that it's motherboard related then?

Power and reset are simple switches, it doesn't matter, it never mattered and it will never matter, regardless of the board.

It would have been good to know if the board could get power without CPU but I reseated it just now and voila (also fuck whoever made this bracket, literally comes off with the cooler screws and pops the CPU out of the socket without even applying force on my part) it turns on

 

 

Now I just need to check with a screen and see if everything is okay

Hmm, maybe it's just been coincidence for me. I've been doing repairs and building PCs for several years now. I guess it could just be myself reseating the cable when I've noticed it in the incorrect orientation that has fixed it(i.e. computers that won't power on and the cable I guess was just loose). I honestly didn't know that, I've always just plugged it in correctly or reseated it when I've seen it. It makes sense though that it works either way it's just a simple momentary switch, I just never looked into it. Thank you for clarifying.

Alright. Issue was fixed with a CPU reseat, PC is all up and running with no problems. Thanks for the suggestions.
