Monitor Advise 4k

Recently Secured as 3070 as part of a prebuild so started to look into 4k monitors. 
There just so much information around bad 4k monitors and the last few videos about 4k monitors are a bit old our high priced. Tried looking on here as well and just overwhelmed honestly. 

I don't mind doing research but wanted to know if anyone has any advise on where to start looking. What rabbit holes should I avoid. 
4K is a want not a need so for sure willing to wait for better tech but if there's something out there that isn't badly priced and is good for non completive gameplay. So I've seen the 600-800 dollar monitors but this isnt a need but a want so trying to be 

Ive seen Nano IPS, OLED, LED, projectors, IPS, and other things. 
At this point i'm struggling to see if 4k is even worth it at this time even for those LG monitors in the 300 range from 2019-2020

Tbh with a 3070 you're better off looking at a nice 1440p monitor.

 

Something like a LG 27GP850-B or MSI MAG 274QRF-QD will be a great fit.

Nope

 

2560x1440 is 1440p

 

 

3840x2160 is 4k

1440p is 2560x1440 where UHD is 3840x2160 (what mos monitors use, because 16:9 aspect ratio)

I can recommend LG 27GL850-B, which is just the old version of 27GP850-B, difference, real 10 bit panel on the newer model.

Also I recently built an excessive no compromise build and I've been looking for a proper 4k monitor to pair it with and i can guarantee no matter how much you spend there's no 4k gaming monitors that are actually worth it on the market at the moment... Every single one has terrible compromises

 

Looks like 1440p is still the way to go

 

tbf there is ONE but it's been out of stock forever and it doesn't look like it will be restocked any time soon

4k is 3840x2160, that is 8,294,400 pixels for your GPU to render.

1440p Ultrawide,  3440x1440 - 4,953,600 pixels

1440p,  2560x1440 -  3,686,400 pixels

1080p,  1920x1080 - 2,073,600 pixels

 

• 4k Is extremely intensive even for a 3090. Only easier to run games will have high framerate at 4k, even with a 3090. Some people prefer the clarity over FPS, or they only play easy to run games. 4k is literally 4x more pixels than 1080p.

 

• 1440p is the sweet spot for most people, clearer than 1080p and a 3070 will still have great FPS. Ultrawide is an option many people enjoy for gaming.

 

• 1080p is great for extremely high FPS

 

Something to consider with 4k monitors, and to some extent 1440p ultrawide as well. You will need to upgrade your GPU every single launch to keep up with new games. If you don't play new games this doesn't matter for you as much.

 

Some monitors are total sh**, I recommend looking up reviews from your favorite tech reviewers. The ones mentioned so far are great choices.

 

IMO - I agree with the others, 1440p is probably what you should be considering. 1440p Ultrawide if your into that.

Even when searching 4k by default i was getting 1440p... Guess Amazon knows how dumb I am haha!

Plus, horrible pixel response times, an internal fan that is noticeablly loud and a visible "grid" pattern from the backlight. There are enough issues to make the $2500 price tag more than ridiculous.

Yes, but this cripples the monitor's versatility. But if you only have a PC, then it will be just fine. It will also have a big impact on resale value.

As long as you are <30" in size, 1440p will probably still get you superior gaming performance (from a user impression perspective).  But pixel density goes to shite above that size (and imho, is still low even at 27").

 

Until the RTX 40xx series comes out with (hopefully) DP 2.0, I wouldn't expect to see a coordinated move by MFG's to push the envelope and really make 120hz+ 4k or 5k gaming displays a mainstream thing.  Sure, the GPU will probably still choke a bit on ULTRA settings for the latest games, but as of now, we're still stuck with HDMI 2.0/ DP 1.4 on most things (although some will have HDMI 2.1).
