5950 Motherboards that dont require BIOS flashes

Hey lovely peoples of the LTT community. I am looking at updating my 6700k system, going back to AMD this time around to be expected of course. My only real confusion is in the damn bios flashing issues. I don't have an old chip to flash a bios and I am unsure of which models of motherboard are plug and play with the current gen?

 

Any advise appreciated, any being pointed in the right direction greatly thankful for

There is no guarantee that a particular X570/B550 board will work. But you can buy a board that supports BIOS flashback. Then you can flash the BIOS without needing a compatible CPU first. Luckily most mid and high end boards have this feature.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

If you're buying new, and you're looking for a board to use paired with a 5950X, you're most likely going to be looking at X570 boards. Any new X570 board will support the 5950X out of the box.

Get a B550 motherboard with BIOS Flashback feature.  A lot of B550 have a much better mix of features at the same price a x570 motherboard would be, and they're often using newer and better parts than x570 designs.

Just choose a Motherboard with a Bios Flashback Feature in it, Also if you go with a Ryzen 9 5950x I strongly Recommended an X570, I mean a X570 that doesn't sucks. 

 

Don't be too paranoid about Bios Version on the Motherboard, Usually a New Motherboard (Whether it it's b550 or X570) Usually came with already supported BIOS for Ryzen 5000 Series, Just to be clear tho

 

Even if you're somehow got a Older Version of BIOS, The motherboard probably will have like a Bios Flashback on it (Because if you could afford a 5950x you has to somewhat buy a Mid-High end Motherboard..)

 

Even if your motherboard somehow doesn't have a Bios Flashback, You can buy a 3000 Series CPUs for a really good price (I mean again you managed to get a 5950x, So....)

Thanks for the help peoples, its like being back in the 90's when AMD where king again lol, its a shame this particular aspect hasn't changed though. Intel might not be king anymore but I had gotten use to the plug and play nature of them over the past couple decades hehe. Lazy in my older years for sure, I am even considering a pre-built just configured sans GPU and HDD's. Seems a smart way to get compatibility and more of the plug and play I'm use too.

Ill keep an eye on this thread and continue some reading online over the next couple weeks before I press the trigger on anything.

Intel forced you to change the motherboard, releasing a new chipset series for every new processor generation, or every couple of generations. They had to stop doing it recently because AMD is competing, and they're lower performance.

 

A minor inconvenience like updating bios is not a big deal.
