Are Gamers Killing Video Games - The GT

ilikemacandpc

The Game theorists have a new video saying that Gamers are HURTING games.

And what I see is that gamers are not satisfied, and that they are somewhat fanboyish.

What are your opinions?

It's been this way for quite some time now........ my opinion won't change that Developers have locked down so much compared to 15 years ago, and over time, people have also changed.

I think it is the console peasants, casuals and kids who are killing the innovation.

EDIT: When I said console peasants I was talking about the casuals and kids... I didn't really word it well.

I think companies try to lure the masses into gaming, by finding a formula that works and can establish. It just takes a lot of draws to find the jackpot.

Something that failed tramendiously because it was innovative, could've been successful under other conditions.

Gamers aren't killing the industry. I think it's companies trying to make the next big thing.

who cares...

I think FPS games are taking over and finding a good RPG / platformer is hard to come by nowadays, most of them are just quickly slapped together.

Depends on what you mean by "Gamer". The people who only play ONE kind of game...those are the people who are killing the industry.

This. Sadly.

Innovation as in uninspired FPS game after uninspired FPS game?

It's your elitist bullshit that hurts gaming. It also hurts these forums, btw.

I don't really play many games for gameplay anymore honestly. I play most games just for the graphics.

It's not limited to the gaming industry. It's why all films are boring and nearly identical, with the exception of those that are based on highly selling books. Lowest common denominator is what gets funded.

The problem I see with franchises nowadays is that only the first one or two need to be good, because I would go "yeah dude, BF3 was pretty cool, the 4th one is coming up, you should get it", so obviously the secuel of a great game will sell better because people are expecting more great things, so as long as it is fun, you will capture some people, it is all a marketing strategy, there's people that still think that WarZ is a good game, or whatever their name is now.

The problem is that we just don't vote with our wallet now, we need to start promoting the "Don't buy on release day" mentality that's getting so popular among PC gamers thanks to steam summer and winter sales, because CoD players that are not fanboys might still buy the next CoD game either because they actually like having CoD:WaW with modded textures, or because they think "It might be better" A lot of the examples given in the video are games like "the mario platformer formula" and that is not wrong because those games are fun, the fact that a game is not "innovative" doesn't mean it's not fun. We gamers if we want innovation or whatever we need to start voting with our wallets, I pre-ordered BF4, the only origin game I own, and I kinda regret it, My account got hacked and I didn't care, I fixed it a month later, I got my account back with a shit ton of unlocks and levels the hacker got lol.

that's what I have to say

This should be a good debate.

But I agree. I'm the person that tries any game, even if it's one barely anyone has heard of.... or not so famous. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is SO CHEAP and is SO DETAILED for a game made in 2009, it deserves so much more respect than it does now. It's one hell of a game.

This also explains why pc game sales are "suffering" compared to console sales. PC gamers are a smaller group with varied game preferences and like you said, we tend to wait for sales and only buy games we want to play at prices we find reasonable. When compared to console gamers, us PC gamers are are demanding, picky, and don't fill developers' pockets nearly as well. It's no wonder more and more developers are abandoning us. Not that we're wrong for voting with our wallets, but its all matter of perspective and we're getting the short end of the stick.

Elitist bullshit? If it wasn't for our elitist bullshit PC games might have submitted to the mediocrity and disgrace to what gaming is on the console side of things. PC gamers know how to at least have variety in their games library when the typical console casual just plays call of duty. PC gamers set the bar high, because the DEVs know we will throw a shit storm if they screw up, for example halo look at that game go to trash because it tried to be like call of duty. It had the potential to be the Counter Strike on consoles but in the end it just had to be like COD.

We set the bar high, we stay above the rest. #lordGaben #pcmasterrace

To an extent. I still have faith with games such as witcher 3 and some pretty damn good indie platformers coming out. And also the rayman series is still going pretty good imo.

Blaming the consumer for corporation's problems! Now that is an idea I can get behind... then slit its throat and light its stupid corpse on fire.

The stone cannot know why the chisel cleaves it; the iron cannot know why the fire scorches it. When thy life is cleft and scorched, when death and despair leap at thee, beat not thy breast and curse thy evil fate, but thank the Builder for the trials that shape thee.

I love the games that are made out of passion and not primarily for a profit. (nextcargame, interstellar marines, star citizen, scraps)
