INTEL Core i7-11700K vs Intel Core I9 10850K which one should I go for?

Greetings,

I am building a new rig and trying to decide which processor should I choose.

Should I go for the 11th generation Core i7-11700K or Core I9 10850K?

The system will be mostly for PS and video rendering.

Thanks

Could you please tell me why? The price difference is only 30 USD.

Generally speaking, the Core i7 processors feature six to eight cores, whereas the i9 CPUs all ship with a minimum of eight. The main difference between these processors is Hyper-Threading, but we will touch upon that shortly. ... These enthusiast-level workstation processors will come with up to 18 cores.

So does i7-11700k

The i7 will serve you a lot better in the long run cuz it's on a newer chipset, and at userbenchmark.net the i5-11600k matches the i9-10900k except for cores.

Current Rig: Intel Core i9-11900k, ASUS PRIME Z590-V, 32GB DDR4, 2.0 TB worth of SSD storage, MSI GeForce GTX 1050 TI, all in the MSI MAG FORGE 100r chassis with Corsair RM850 PSU.

Why not just address the CPUs mentioned?

For your usecase, a 5800x or 10850k would be better than the 11700k.

MeatSink isn’t really giving a good reason as to why you should get the 10850k vs 11700k but I do agree with him on which one to get

10850k has 10 (usually) easily overclockable cores and great performance in most modern games when paired with a decent GPU (think 2070 super and every other Turing GPU past that, like 2080 or 2080 Super, as well as most Ampere GPUs like the 3060Ti, 3080, etc)

11700k has 8 cores clocked slightly lower, but they get hot and performance isn’t all that impressive at all.

11700k is basically a flop while 10850k is just a lower binned 10900k, essentially.

Thank you. For now I prepare the integrated GPU. I wonder if the 11th generation's GPU would be better for the work I mentioned until I'll get the dedicated GPU?

Thats not a reason  for something being better in the long run....

If the chipset offers something of value, sure.

And for OPs usecase, excessive high Bandwidth PCIe device does not appear to be a thing.

Userbenchmark is exteremely skewed and unreliable for results.

If you have to stick with LGA1200, get the 10850K.

The 11700K is 8C/16T, while the 10850K is 10C/20T.

NO.

DO NOT.

OP, get the 10850K.

This is not why you select a processor at all, frankly its not even close. Dont recommend stuff you dont know anything about

Go for the 10850K as it has 2 more cores and is basically just as good as the 11700K.

The i7 11700K is one of the worst value for money processors ever launched, Userbenchmark is one of the most unreliable sources ever made, and the 10850k is basically the same speed as the 117000k with 2 more cores and cheaper motherboards.

10850k is just a lower clocked 10900k, and 10900k beat the 11700k. 10850k is better.

I built a i9 10900k computer at the end of last year. At stock the CPU uses 220 watts and overclocked it uses 330 watts.

My i9 9900k uses about 120 watts stock and 158 watts overclocked or just a little warmer than my R7 5800x.

The ten core needs more cooling and a better motherboard then my Intel and AMD 8 cores so I would add that to the price of the 10 core build.

you do get quicksync, so it would suffice

You get some quicksync improvements with the 11700k. How much impact those have in comparison to the 10850k, idk. Not seen a deepdive by GN or someone similar yet.

There really isnt much appeal to the 11700k when the 10850k has quicksync. (Unless there are some major improvements i havent seen)

Adding on to this: 11700k is part of the last generation of CPUs on that chipset/socket anyways, so saying ‘well its a newer CPU on a newer chipset, hur dee dur’ is kinda a terrible argument. It’s the same socket, both CPUs will work on the same chipsets and sockets, but not LGA 1700 in a year or so.

I use a 360mm AIO.

The reason is that to run with all the boosts stock the CPU has to stay below 70c.
