Not too sore about not scoring an RTX 3000

Doug_Dangger

Now that I think about it, my 1070FE is still rolling strong.  I game at 1080p 144hz and it more than delivers.  I have all the sliders to the right but minus AA and the ever disgusting motion blur to the left.

I used to have a 970FE before this.  It was good for gaming up to 80fps for games up until around 2017.  I see the dips when vram hits the 3.5GB limit.  That pretty much made me upgrade to the 1070.

Since I can't buy a 3070 for the $500 msrp I just went ahead and got an i7 (from my 4th gen i5) m.2 and ssd all around and what the heck... 32gb ram.  I have no plans on buying a new gpu the rest of this year.  Unless of course I see one at msrp.  Other than that scalpers won't get a dime from me.  🙂

To my surprise this is the first time I saw my vram nearly hitting the ceiling.

The whole VRAM debacle was blown out of proportion. If I'm not mistaken, the latest version of Afterburner (perhaps a beta) now has functionality to report the actively used amount of VRAM as well (compared to only the allocated amount), which is a lower typically.

Oh if you like VRAM bottlenecks try Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, at *max* settings,  Monster Hunter World with HD texture pack will also give it a run for its money!  Good luck!

If you afterwards want more "why my measly 8GB VRAM aren't even close to being enough" just ask ~ 😄

funny thing is that the vram from the 5 year old gtx 1070 is the same as the 3070

*except "faster" (not that games would care about that lol)

Had it for a while now,  hwinfo64 for example also (like at least a year if I had to guess)

There you go, proof for the people with new builds that they don't need an RTX 3000 series GPU to enjoy games.

My 980ti (close enough to equal the 1070 when overclocked) is also still pulling strong. I play at 1440p144hz, so dropping settings is necessary, but for the games I play I'm still plenty happy to have this card given the current market

That's an F in the profile pic
