Biggest regional price difference you've seen?

This is in off topic because it's not directly asking about tech, mods please move if appropriate.

OK so I was looking up a specific SSD model on the Western Digital website:

Price shown in image is $55, currently on sale for $49

$55. A reasonable price, I'd say. for that SSD. You can get them much cheaper, but this is from a reputable brand and is NVMe - so, whatever.

I live in the UK. So, just out of interest, let's see what the price is over there and...

Price shown in image is £1449

Holy fucking hell....

Even allowing for exchange rates, That's roughly a 2700% increase!

So the purpose of this thread is twofold:

  1. Why? I can understand a slight increase, but why would it be that much?
  2. Has anyone ever found a regional price variation greater than this?

Thanks for reading all this by the way!

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

that is quite odd, almost like a system error in pricing because that just doesn't make sense to have a gap like that, usually its like up to 50 bucks difference for the same item.
