Where is your bottleneck

Digideath

So where is the bottleneck in your computer. We all have at least 1.

I have 2 bottlenecks. As i wil explain.

First off is my gfx card. I have a rtx 2060 gpu. Modern games like destiny 2 and cyberpunk run my gfx card flat out. My cpu is being heavily used but my fps are being dictated by the gfx card.

Second off is my cpu. Certain old games ( x game series, stalker games etc) only run on one thread and you are limited to the best one single thread can do.

In all instances im using a 144hz monitor @ 1080p and am strugling to hit the full 144hz.

I have one, and it's quite large.

It's my GTX 650 Ti BOOSTs.
I have 8-year-old graphics cards that weren't too great when they were new, and aren't too great now.

I can really tell when I'm playing Relics of the Past (Zelda BoTW mod) on Cemu - FPS is 15-20 in light areas, and 10-12 in heavy areas.

I'm planning to get a Titan Z.

The bottle neck is on my beer bottle where it belongs.

My HTPC

2700x

16gb 2933mhz

ROG B450-I

RTX 2060 4K

The limitation of my system on Triple A title gaming is ALL, the CPU frequency, The memory frequency and the Graphics card is only entry level.

So my expectation at 4K, mostly high settings, post processing low or off. 40-60fps with mid 30's lows. BeamNGDrive, GTAV, and so forth.

Even if I had a 3070, the Cpu would almost always be the underdog from lack of frequency, reaching whatever limitation, be it IPC or just raw frequency.

Since the Video card does most of the on screen rendering, you would upgrade the 2060 first, then the rest of the platform.... whatever that may be.

I usually max out my GTX970 (even though its overclocked to moon and back) before anything else. I am fine with it though, If I can score a 1080 or 1080ti for an appropriate amount I might consider upgrading but I dont see that happening anytime soon.

I think for most users it will be the CPU or graphics card, same for me.

Of course it depends on the use, but for example for Minecraft, my graphics card can do more than my CPU, while in Skyrim or Dirt Rally 2.0 it's the opposite.

In Davinci Resolve, it's typically the VRAM of my graphics card, while with exporting it's the CPU. Sometimes it's even my RAM withholding me from making it run faster. In Waifu2x/Video2x (an image- or video upscaling program respectively) it's my graphics card, because it runs on that alone.

It all depends on the program and context, there will always be a bottleneck in a system, but that's not necessarily a bad thing; that could just mean the program is made to utilize one component over another.

The OP didn't mention I could only talk about one bottleneck and even went as far as to say this:

We all have at least 1.

But the OP is a bit ambiguous as to whether we should mention the 'most' bottlenecked scenario or multiple, so it's open for interpretation I think!

They even mentioned two bottlenecks themselves, so I don't think I should've limited myself to mentioning just one 'bottleneck'.

And that's just the things, depending on what you do on your PC, the bottleneck may lie somewhere else.

to make it clear in that case everyting on your system is bottleneck. cpu, gpu, ram, pcie bandwith ssd and hard drives and even worst part staring at screen 😄

Yep, that's what I meant with this sentence:

My interpretation of this thread went to "name the bottleneck(s) in your system that you have observed in your most common use-case(s)".

depends on the game i play

currently im looking to go back to high fps

traded my 240hz to 144hz, kinda regretted it

so im eye-ing on a 360hz, but probably waiting for 480hz, and maybe OLED because it's been long due for it to come to market, 480Hz OLED

my game runs around 1000-2000fps, so all good, system wise

lost my #1 crown, it's high time i get it back after 2 years break when my hand recovers

I didn't realise this was going to errupt like this. Sorry for that.

I have

Ryzen 7 3700x cpu
Rtx 2060 gpu

I was just trying to find out if others had bottlenecks. I wasn't trying to be ambiguous. Its just that i have obvious bottlenecks in my system and i was wondering what bottlenecks other people have.

First and foremost, only having 8gb of VRAM kills me, it's far from enough for most stuff I need to do.

Second is my RAM, 64gb allows me to do most stuff, but once in a while it's not enough.

I mean, my bottleneck is definitely my gt1030 lol. In games my cpu almost doesn't get used and my GPU is on the verge of dying, so pretty clear what the problem is.

I've stopped worrying so much about my PC and started being concerned with my audio system. Bottleneck after bottleneck, I'm always dreaming of a new piece of equipment to upgrade.

For games at least, mine is a RTX 2080 Ti. As I play in 3440x1440 ultra settings normally, the 9900K is never fully used, much less 32gb os RAM.

No idea. I have laptop with a AMD Ryzen 5 35OOU with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx at 2.10 GHz.

The graphics are integrated.

I have 1 stick of Samsung SODIMM 8GB at 2667

I mean it is a far cry from the laptop I had with an Intel I5 2nd Gen with 4 gigs of ram.

Still feels just as bad though ngl. I get the same performance between both.

DISCLAIMER!!!

I am working with personal experiences and very limited knowledge.

I am still going to try though.

I will be very very wrong a lot of the time.

It will always be best to research everything I say to be sure I am not turning your PC into a nuclear toaster.
