Yeah nobody has done "solid gold controller" before but hearing "gold xbox/playstation" is something gamers have gotten all to familiar with hearing over the years. It's always gold plated, but to gamers, it makes no difference.  It's something unobtainable they can never reach and just gets pumped around by media outlets.

Its all about the clicks. Videos like that get views and at the end of the day most for profit  YouTube'ers need views to stay afloat.

Looks about the same to me. TBH one could argue its not just about view count but also retching a bigger   audience base. These videos may not be your cup of tee, but for some they are. I would think bringing in views from a wider range of people would be a goal of such a channel.

It's a terrible long term business model though. Making clickbait for the masses will get you more views and revenue but audience/subscriber retention will plummet. Imagine if Youtube's algorithm changed and clickbait was now unfavorable. LTT would probably get around 400,000 views or less per video

Wouldn't this be why they wanted to make videos with a wider audience base? Using everything youtube has to offer would help max out their earnings, that would induce a few click bates there and there and if youtube changed something they can fall back on there other videos.

Correct but they are bringing in viewers with clickbait. So if they change their content then people would leave as that's not what they originally subscribed or watched for. I think Linus is widely known enough now that retaining an audience is somewhat reliant on Linus himself

It's about views and seeing what can be done. It has nothing to do with what gamers are going to buy; Linus of course knows that no one is going to go out and do something like this. It's more of a 'can it be done' scenario. Now, he has something that is a one of one in the world, which he will have subsidized with his channel and merch.

If anything it's a smart business move.

Yeah it's just a little weird as it's an entertainment company. Quentin Tarantino isn't going to go out and make a children's animated movie because they generally do very well. Same goes for Linus. He probably wouldn't jump ship from tech and start doing knitting even if it meant 100X the revenue. But who knows.

The point is not that somebody is going to buy it. As I said the "gold xbox/playstation" thing has been done to death and gamers have heard it countless time over the years, it doesn't matter if it's solid or plated, which you ignored. It's a media piece, it's always a media piece, it's not the point that somebody is going to buy it. The point is as he said in the wan show, he wanted something that would go viral. This is not going viral. It was not likely to go viral.

That was not really the point. Point is that LTT is more then willing to jump ship and do something different and has done so. Linus one tossed around doing car stuff in the vid about that volt he got too so I'm sure if they have too they will take a different road with their coronet and how its presented.

If he did, and was good at it, then it'd just show a very fluid and successful business though Just like Tarantino would probably kill it if he made an animated film. Not being type-cast is a pretty important part of any entertainment based entity. You don't want to be that actor known for one thing and one thing only, losing out on countless other opportunities.

Then why even bother mentioning that it's unobtainable?

Let's take a closer look at what you linked. You linked 10 things.

• Of these 10, 8 are consoles, not controllers, of which only 5 are unique.
• The 2 that are controllers are plated, not complete reconstructions, and thus not at all the same thing.

How has it been done to death with only 7 examples, of which none are complete reconstructions?

I actually didn't ignore that you think it doesn't matter. I stated the fact that it's about seeing what can be done (complete gold reconstruction).

Having something go viral largely comes down to timing and how it's presented. This could have gone viral, it maybe just didn't hit the mark at the right time.

IMO he should have had Madison in the thumbnail and video.

I think it's one of those scenarios where they're not willing to put in the time and effort needed to make it profitable. It probably doesn't draw much sponsorship either.

Can't really blame them in the least, but having a video sporadically here and there isn't going to amount to a successful venture.
