I'd make a poll, but since there are so many types and makers, it probably would not fit even if I remembered all of them.

So which switches do you prefer and for what use?

So far I only tried Cherry MX red, Kailh Red and Romer-G (I'd be lying if I was saying that I remember if they were the clicky or linear ones).

I've got kailh blue SPC GK630K TKL coming next week and I am really looking forward to it, since I am living alone, I do not have to care about the loud clicks which I actually really like, so I think I will really love the blue switches.

So what about you?

I usually "ram" my keyboard when typing so blacks were the obvious choice. I currently have the GMMK with Kailh Box Black switches and it's absolutely amazing.

Very personal of course, but I quite like clicky BOX switches (like Kailh BOX Jade), but I think if I find a smooth light linear I could be very happy with it too.

There are good and bad switches in all varieties.

It won't be a perfect poll, but if you just wanna kinda simply see people's preference, you could always add a "What do you like most? Clicky, linear or tactile (or neither)" poll.

Obsessed with heavy switches. Gimme dat resistance! 💪

Use is super casual, plain o' gaming and Interweb lurking. Occasionally I get hit with that typing mood, and I spend an hour or two on MonkeyType mindlessly chasing those WPMs. 😁

Currently have only tried Gateron Yellow and they do live up to their 'butter smooth on a low budget' reputation, even better with some 205G0.
Interested to try out the Kailh Box Thick Click series for clicky, very crisp click and you got 2 clicks for 1 keystroke.
For tactile switches, Durock T1 and its recolours are on my bucket list.
If you really like clicky swithces, out of all MX style switches I would avoid the click jacket switches (MX Blue and other similar switches), they produce a rattly click and you only get 1 click per keystroke.

For now I think that my favorite switch is the kailh box white.  Nice sharp click bar click and tactility, nice smoothness, perfect actuation distance ant total travel.  ok spring weight, sometimes feels a bit weak but the kailh box navy are a bit too heavy so something in the middle would be best.

Second favorite kailh box burnt orange.  Nice tactility but less sharp than the box white ... wish it was sharper.  Great spring weight for me ... not too stiff and not too weak.

Things I try to avoid ... outemu switches ... cherry switches ... reason ... there's always better switches available from other brands that are doing it the same or better.

Things I would like to try someday ... electro capacitive switches, alps, buckling springs (I did try them when I was young but memory is faint ... and have I known that I would become a pc and keyboard enthusiast I would have told my parents to keep the old tandy 1000)

Out of the ones I've tried, I think either Box Jades, or Ghost Switches (recoloured and not factory lubed Durock/JWK silent linears).

Box Jades are just super satisfying to type on (sounds and feels just so much nicer than MX Blues), but I felt like it got too annoying and distracting for others in VC. Sharp and pronounced tactile bump, sharp click, very nice. I did notice that the stem was twisted a bit (not uncommon), but it didn't bother me that much.

I tried Ghost Switches in my CU65, and those felt very pleasant, although it did feel like they weren't super smooth, and definitely had spring ping. Lubing could be worth it (and tbf, that is expected, as the community did not want to clean off factory lube). They also look pretty cute, imo.

Keebwerk Tacit (Durock silent tactile) could have been one of my favourites, but they just seem a bit more inconsistent than the Ghost switches. Some switches have more wobble and feel a bit looser, for whatever reason. I think switch films could help these. Nice tactile bump, and pretty much no spring ping on these, though, as they come with a tiny bit of factory lube.

I have a few Gazzew/Outemu Boba U4 switches that have hopefully arrived in the mail now. I have read nice things about the Boba U4 especially, so it will be interesting to compare them to the Tacits. They are supposedly quieter, which would really be nice (not that the Tacits are loud).

Looking at mainly silenced switches atm, as I find I like their sound more in sound tests, and I don't feel as bad when using them in VCs.

Outemu does make the Sky and Boba/U4 components, which are pretty good, afaik. Cherry does have the Hyperglide series, which are allegedly quite good (although the same was said about retooled Cherry switches, until the tooling started to wear)

I have only used outemus, since I have heard they are similar for the price, but I'm sure cherry switches feel a little bit better.
