does cas latency matter in memory sticks? (is CL22 too much?)

So i found ram sticks that are cheap ashell (and gud) but the only downside is theyre cl22 aka the cas latency is 22 instead of the usual 16-18. will it matter? the ram sticks are 3200mhz and 2x16gb

Yes, it can potentially affect performance and negate the effects that high frequency memory has. And usually that memory isn't really cheaper, or significantly cheaper than standard memory with improved cas latency.

That seems quite horrendous, DDR4-3200 at CL22 is 13.75 nanosecond latency between calls. DDR4-3200 at CL16 is just 10 nanoseconds.  The lower it is, the faster your RAM can execute and thus a speedier system.

Yes CAS Latency matters, ii is the number of clock cycles that pass from when an instruction is given. So higher CL = slower clock cycles, so effectively your 3200MHz ram would perform closer to that of a 2133-2400MHz CL16 kit.

 

Get a 3200MHz CL16, do not bother with this kit you are looking at.
