Laptop SSD Upgrade

SSD Upgrade

I've been having issues with setting the ssd in my laptop as my boot drive.

I verified compatibility (sata) but I haven't been successful with cloning the drive.

avoid cloning drives to move a windows installation. it can cause problems down the line. backup your computer and start a *fresh* install on the ssd

Yup I disagree too.

With a proper sector to sector clone there shouldn't be any issues.

I used to use Aomei Backupper for cloning, but that isn't free anymore I think.

How did you clone the drive?

I used a recommended freeware program but I forgot the name. I also used partiton magic afterwards to increase the windows partition size because the free program and the Winows built in tool did not allow it.

I just had one issue:

I cloned the data from an HDD to an SSD but could not boot with them both as everyone had a MBR table. I wanted to see if it worked before deleting anything. I solved it by disconnecting the HDD, pressing the power button and connecting the HDD asap after I pressed the button.

Booting separately would not have worked because I would not have been able to delete the HDD this way. Windows also did not recognize the HDD when I connected it after the boot phase.

that's what I said.. it *can* cause issues. it's also heavily dependent on the software you use to do it, so bad software could cause issues later.
