Best Linux Distro for a noob?

I am building an new PC and want to save on buying win 8 until later. What would be a good linux Distro for someone that has very little experience with it? Ubuntu?

Or should I figure out a way to get win 7 or win8?

If you play the right game, performance will be better, but improvements are minimal. Linux uses less resources is really the only benefit, and you don't need that with a 780 and i5.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

i dont think there are any games on linux that would use the full potential of those components but i could be wrong dont quote me.

I'd go with Ubuntu, really easy to set up, full GUI [you basically won't see the terminal unless you want to], Steam works perfectly fine on it and with Wine and PlayOnLinux you can play almost any game easily ^^

Although I'd suggest Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. 13.xx is crap.

I use Ubuntu but Mint users will prefer it over Ubuntu. Also elementary is a nice clean looking distro too. Honestly it's all about personal opinion download the ISOs for each distro I mention and give each of them a spin and see what you like the most.

As a noobish, I found debian was pretty good.
