Best 30 series card for 1080p 144hz?

Consul

A 3070 or a 3080? (Though I might go 1440p 144hz in the long run)

CPU: i7 8700k

gotta wait for benchmark to know for sure, but 3070 should be enough

3080 would probably help with future titles though at 1440p

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Yeah that's what I was thinking. From time to time I change my preference from a 3080 to 3070 just because of how high frames might bottleneck the CPU, but I guess it would help if I got a 3080 for the long run.

3070 for 1440p 144Hz.

For 1080p it's overkill, heck even the 5700XT and 2070S are considered overkill by some.

REEE I WANT MORE FRAMES

using 2070S at 1080p is nice, constant high fps, little dips, silky smooth experience

plus you get to set high/ultra details

It seems like I should wait for 3070's release & benchmarks.

Depends on the game.

I'm a flight sim fan, and I'm getting a 3080 for 1440p to try to hit 60fps in New York. If you want to use flight sim, I'd go for the 3080.

Current System: Ryzen 7 3700X, Noctua NH L12 Ghost S1 Edition, 32GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz, MAG B550i Gaming Edge, 1TB WD SN550 NVME, SF750, RTX 3080 Founders Edition, Louqe Ghost S1

I will be playing AAA titles mostly, would like to crank up the settings as well.

Also, before anyone says anything, I know 1080p will be giving me bottlenecks but in the long run I feel like games will get more and more demanding, which to me seems like it would also be great to go for a 3080 for the long run (easy 3-4 years).

I have just bought a 1440p 144 Hz monitor in anticipation of the upcoming new GPU releases. I’m currently playing with a 5700XT on a 165 Hz 1080p. In my opinion it’s not overkill because I like to play games with ultra details and high FPS.
I’ll probably pick up a 3070 or equivalent AMD card and it should be good for 1440p 144Hz.

I have been dying to have that and that is why I REALLY want to buy a 3080.

BS. You need to show benchmarks if you're claiming this.

Forgot to add "by some" after "are considered overkill", since this is kind of a subjective matter, but regardless:

i can see a world where if you wanted native 1080p/144hz RT on you'd want a 3080 (dlss is really a blurry mess in some games barring dlss 3.0 improvements), 3070 will be enough for most cases

If we assume the 2080 ti =3070, it gets about 160fps in control at 1080p with RT on and DLSS off, and that game's a pretty fringe case, 3070 won' do 144hz on games like gtav with mods or RDR2 maxed, but in 90% of the games you'll be fine.

If you have a chance to go 1440p 144hz just get a 3080, the 8700k is also a small bottleneck at 144hz if it's not delidded, so do some research before dumping into a monitor and a gpu.

So this is showing averages below 144Hz most games, so 1%'s are going to be well below, so pretty fuckin far from even adequate let alone overkill.

For a 3080, I would think that a 1440p 144Hz monitor would definitely give you a better experience. For 1080p 144Hz, the highest I'd go is a 3070 (or AMD equivalent).

I might go 1440p 144hz in the future, yeah. Delidding though? No, thank you, I would certainly fuck up something if I did that.
