What to do with it?

Rocketdog2112

So say if a guy has 1500ml of liquid mercury stored away and no useful purpose for it, what can he do with it?

Be careful with it and don't let it seep out of the container. Realistically the best thing to do with it is to take it to a hazardous waste disposal site and hand it off to a worker there, mercury is quite toxic.

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

WD 5400RPM 2TB

EVGA G3 750W

Corsair Carbide 300R

Arctic Fans 140mm x4 120mm x 1

If it's stored properly it makes a cool shelf ornament I think or fun to let responsible people carefully lift to experience how deceptively heavy it is. Otherwise bring it to your local hazardous waste disposal.

Place it into a thin glass container.  Draw a vacuum, then seal the container.  Then place the container in media with known temperatures and mark the level of the mercury after several hours to ensure the mercury has matched temperature with your known medium.  Do this again with media of a different temperature.

Do this with as many different known media as you can get your hands on.  Once you've exhausted this option, graph all of your data points and extrapolate a trend line to fill in the blanks on the container.

Liquid metal your laptop, or drink it.

Yes, I am very aware of it's toxicity and dangers. It is stored in three 500ml heavy plastic chemical bottles with full seal lids in a sealed five gallon bucket away from anyone. I rarely let anyone handle it, but when they do, they are amazed by its' weight. Then it's off to wash their hands. I have seen small quantities go for some amazing sums of money. But homegrown terrorist crap stops me from selling it on the open market.

That's what i use for one of my bikes that still uses carburetors. It's an older set whereas the newer ones are filled with colored water to satisfy the save the planet activist. Appreciate the suggestion...

Charging to dispose of hazardous material is the best way to have people like you dump it down the drain instead.

As such, it's usually free.

Usually hazardous disposal sites don’t charge to dispose of stuff like this. The reason? Because apparently some people would rather dump toxic mercury down their toilet than pay a small fee.
