PCIe Gen 3 vs Gen 4

Hi,

Title says half of it. Would you sacrifice a lot of performance if you used a PCIe Gen 4 GPU (eg. RTX 3000) on a Gen 3 motherboard? I'm currently looking to upgrade my little beast of a potato.

Currently thinking between that or lowballing a RTX 2080 Ti or a GTX 1080 Ti...

Thx!

NHL.

PS: I'm gaming on 1080p 60Hz :( but gonna upgrade soon to 1440p 144Hz!

You can detect a tiny difference in benchmarks but it makes no real world difference. Nothing to worry about.

A couple outlets keep saying yes based on some testing that hardware unboxed did.

I'm gonna rewatch the video on it now but if I recall it had more to do with cards rather than pcie3 vs 4 bandwidth.

Like it was a very specific scenario I think.

Ok so I thought this was the first PCIe 3 vs 4 video they did regarding the 5500xt.

I'm getting a 3090 when available.

So for me it looks like I'll have a brand new 10700k and gigabyte z490i aorus ultra for sale

Thx! Price are still high here in MTL, but FYI:

- 1080 Ti: 550$

- 2080 Ti: 900$

There has been some post from people like us, that know the real value of the 2000 cards, on Kijiji warning others to not buy 2080 Ti at high price 😂😂😂. See below!
