Is rtx 3090 new Titan ?

Tadziunia

Hey guys, it's strange Jensen on his live stream was talking that years ago when they released Titan, there was a lot of people who bought them, a lot of people who love to have best powerhouse gpu for their workstations, so they released 3090. I am confused, it has 20% more cuda cores and more than 2x vram memory than 3080, but more memory doesn't mean more performance. I feel like there will be 3080 Super/TI in near future with cuda core count of 3090 but with less vram maybe 20gigs. What is your opinion, because i don't believe 3090 is 2x faster than 3080 for 2x price.

the titan was also not much faster on most things either, so...

and unless they use the 800mm² die for a titan which i doubt i dont see a titan making much sense

It's not 2x faster, it was never meant to be. It's the top of the line, and people pay a premium for that, just look at the Titan. It seems like the Titan branding is being replaced with the XX90 series. If I were to guess it might be psychology to convince people that it isn't a separate product that shouldn't be looked at seriously as a gaming option like the limbo zone the Titan RTX ended up in.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, but 3090 doesn't seem so expensive compared to Titan rtx from last year, it cost 2500$. So yeah interesting, been using 1080 Ti and 3080 looks very good, digital foundry got one and showed us percentage value of performace compared to 2080 and yeah 65-80% more performance, in doom eternal it's like 90% even though it doesn't have RTX features, but uses Async. My 1080 Ti performs well, but i should see 2x gain in performance for sure from 3080, if 3090 is Titan replacement, there should be 3080 TI/super for sure in near future. What are your thoughts and what would you do in my place ? thanks in advance

I think they're probably making the 3090 as a new tier so they can come out with something else named Titan later. All the previous cards have had "higher performing" cards in the Quadro segment that outperformed Titan models.

There will be a titan.

The RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti closes the gap between the 3080Ti and Titan 3000.

Titan price is exspected to be 2,5 k.

Why does it matter if it is the new Titan?

If they called it RTX 1030GT but performs like a 3090, what would you do? Run in circles and start screaming? It's just a name.

What matters is the performance and price.

It matters a lot, because we should expect card in between. Just like 1080 and Titan X had 1080 TI which perform like Titan. Same 2080 AND titan RTX, titan is only 5% faster than 2080 TI

I think what he meant was they realised there was a home market for the developer card (Titan) and so this time around they've produced them in greater number to also serve the home market, and they've re-named it to fit the naming convention. I don't think there'll be a Titan this generation or next, but that's just my opinion.

If they announce a Titan after everyone's spent their money on 3090's I think that would just be really bad form. Really lousy of them.

The general consensus among the Tech YouTubers is:

RTX 3090 replaces the Titan

RTX 3080 replaces the 2080ti

RTX 3070 replaces the 2070??

Jensen really did not make this very clear. And... it really does need to be clear. When naming schemes shift up or down and cards fill new spots in a line-up, people get really confused. Nvidia did an equally poor job by not explaining that the RTX 2060 was not a replacement for a GTX 760/960/1060. They make these shifts in the stack and we’re all left wondering.

The 3070 already is as fast or faster than the 2080 ti, so the 3080 is new teritory somewhere between 2080Ti und the old titan

Maybe, the 3070 could be the 2080 replacement. Again, Nvidia isn’t explaining that very well.   Maybe everything is staying exactly where it is in the stack. Maybe the 3090 is this years 2080ti, or it’s just a new card. Maybe the 3080 just replaces the 2080. Maybe there will be a 3080ti?  Maybe they skip a Titan this generation. If cards are being shifted up or down, it would be nice to know, but I doubt Nvidia will tell us. They’re not going to say now that a 3080 Super or 3080ti is coming, as it will hurt 3080 sales.

Of course you should expect a 3080Ti, no matter what.

But that doesn't matter. Either you need a 3080 / 3090 now and buy one, or you don't.

IMHO, for me it's either a 3090 or wait for a 20gb 3080 model

i'm expecting a card between the 3080 and the 3090, and maybe a card above the 3090, whether the faster card blows out the 3090 in performance as the fastest single card, not worried.

If I was guessing, Nvidia has a 3070 Super, a 3070ti, a 3080 Super, and a 3080ti. These are the cards Nvidia pulls out of its back pocket if AMD gets too close for comfort. If Nvidia doesn’t need them, we won’t see them. But I am certain they exist. The cards they announced yesterday have lots of room in between each of them in terms of both CUDA and Memory. Leaves nice gaps that Nvidia can slot new cards into if they need to beat back AMD.

this year the 3090 is the "2nd gen RTX Titan". you could put it like that

Has Nvidia said that, or is that what people are assuming?  I doubt Nvidia will say that the 3090 replaces the Titan. They won’t want shut that door. Not officially saying that allows them the opportunity to put out a 3090 Super, 3090ti, or even a Titan VI if AMD puts pressure on them.

no no no. it isnt replacing the titan. IT IS THE TITAN.image.png.370d6b975ed873fc06fcf73b7bfab404.pngwell yes it only says it has "TITAN class performance" this is probably a little message conveying that this is the top of the line card for ampere
