PG27UQ vs PG35VQ

I am trying to make a decision between the two monitors in the title and I have been stuck between which one to get and really could do with help making a decision. I have made a word document with pros and cons for each of them based off of my desk stand and also what I have read and researched about the two monitors. If anyone could help me get closer to making a decision I would really appreciate it. This new monitor is also mainly for single player games and watching things in HDR 1000.

You wrote down more pros for the PG35VQ vs the PG27UQ (11 vs 8) and the same number of cons (8).

Not all pros and cons have the same value. Making purchase decisions on >$1000 based on this kind of logic is really not the way to go about things.

Do you think that it will be a more enjoyable experience on a ultrawide for SP games? Also I just want to clear up for anyone wondering that in the pros for PG35VQ it says 100 to 200 bits brighter, by that I mean on average not peak. That’s from what I have searched up and been told.

Personally I'd go with the ultrawide, but I like them as monitors more overall.

 

A couple notes of the pros on the ultrawide:

• You have it listed as half the resolution of 4k, which is incorrect. It's a lot higher than half.
• It's also more immersive in multiplayer games, not just single player.
• I don't think the fans are really going to do much for the chance of it breaking. If anything, there's another thing to go wrong.

As for your list of cons for the ultrawide:

• The black bars really aren't noticeable. I'm also not sure why people complain about them.
• There are very, very few games that don't work with 21:9. Mostly very old titles.
• I find it hilarious the wall projection even made it to the cons list.

I also find it odd that you list the warranty as a con with the first, and not the second, even though they're both Asus.

I know the projection is stupid really but I do like the logo on the wall. I think it would look good with the led strips along my desk. And thanks for the information. Also the reason why I spoke about the RMA process with the PG27UQ and not the ultrawide is because I have heard issues with the fan on it whereas the ultrawide I have only heard one issue which was the flickering and scan lines which has already been sorted. So I don’t think I would need to RMA that monitor if I looked after it. If it comes with dead pixels I can just send it back to the place I buy it from.

if u don't mind the curved, just get the pg35vq, if u do decide to go with the pg27uq, get the x27 instead 

 

the x35 and the pg27uq both sucks compared to their counterparts lol, it's the little things.

 

I personally went with the x27 because i didnt wanna wait nor do i prefer the curved VA. but 1440p/144hz>4k/98 for now. I've physically seen all 4 monitors.

i can only speak for the launch models, the fan is worse on the pg27uq (both of them suck tbh), thats another reason to get the pg35vq, color uniformity is better, calibration is better on the x27(u can fix this with ur own calibration, but asus definitely got lazy here), asus meanwhile has better calibration and input lag on the pg35vq vs the x35.

I really am swaying towards the Ultrawide just so I can give it a go because I have never tried it before and it seems to be less risky than buying the 27 inch models and having them annoy me a year down the line due to the fan. Plus people keep saying to me how immersive they are compared to a 27 inch and it is mainly SP games that I want to use this monitor for. Do you think it will be alright to have a dual monitor setup with this ultrawide such as my PG279Q? I would use the PG279Q just to play competitive games because I prefer a smaller screen for it.

it's ok if you don't mind a curved monitor next to a flat one,

 

as for how annoying the x27 and pg27's fan is, they'd sometimes rev up like a jet engine on start and stops after about a minute, if i had to guess it happens once a month. Haven't heard any of those complaints for the 35inch models. With a 2080 ti i mostly turn on hdr on desktop, lower the brightness from 50% to 30%, stock brightness from 240(?) to 120 nits and play everything on windowed, it looks nice but it's....not optimal until ampere comes out. The 1440p/144 is less intensive than even 4k/98.

 

The only concerns i have with the pg35vq is indeed the 21:9 compatibility with the new consoles, not so much the pc games, they'll be fine.

 

If you've never seen subsampling before, it's worse than most people think, i doubt any1 truly runs 4k/144hz or 1440p/200hz on these monitors.

Yeah I was worried about the fact I couldn’t use the new Xbox Series X with either of my pc monitors unless I played in 1080p and even then I wouldn’t be taking advantage of the Series X, but I am thinking about getting an LG OLED for the Series X so I can enjoy it from my bedroom if I want to play on that.

I wouldn’t get the 35VQ - it was hella delayed, I waited & it turned out underwhelming for the crazy price Asus want (mainly due to the VA panel). 
 

I’ve had a 27UQ and it’s one hell of monitor and definitely the better choice here.
