Anybody dig casio mods? Just finished this one up. Inverted screen, new LED, internal NFC tag on a NATO strap. Maybe I'll try these mods on a Casioak next 😁

Now that I have read "almost" everything Sinn 903 watch I needs to say that Sinn seems better than Breitling Navitimer. Arghh .... damn you @FloRolf  you messed up my head with a great German watch.

😄 😄 😄

what can i say, i am a sucker for my german watches! From Junghans to Sinn to Glashütte Original, Nomos etc. pp. I love them all 😄 Even considering the 903 myself but also interested in the 556 right now (albeit something completely different).

German pieces are nice. I had a Tangente 35 before I got rid of it for the Longines.

Currently still have a Max Bill and a Zeppelin moonphase. Im a big fan of Bauhaus style designs so a Lambda might be in my future even though its quite similar to the Max Bill looks wise IMO.

I also love how slim a lot of the German pieces are. I hate chunky watches.

We recently played a game with my GF's sister and her BF where you get a question (or statement) and everyone has to answer the same thing in order to get points.

The question was "Something you don't gift for a birthday"

We all answered stupid shit except her sister who said "a watch"

We're all staring at her like 😳

And she says "What? Why? It would feel like a 'your time is running up' kind of gift."

We continue staring at her.

Her BF: "I just gave you a watch for Christmas and you gave me one for my Birthday just a couple weeks ago..."

Was quite funny 😄

HOW DID I NOT SEE THIS SOONER

Here's my current best project watch, a 1912 Illinois grade 304 17j in a gold-filled B&B Royal case. It's actually the third watch I've serviced, I have a couple more in progress waiting for parts (in particular, a 1905 Hamilton 992B that's missing a screw I totally didn't fumble and launch god knows where in a cluttered, carpeted room). I haven't done much with watches in a couple months since the best way to get good movements is without cases, and cases for those caseless movements are... hard to get. I've since got a 3D printer and am in the process of designing a 3D printable 16S pocket watch case before I buy up more movements to dig into.

And here's my current daily wear, from my grandpa (who received it from my dad and uncles as a gift). It's a 1967-ish Hamilton Thin-O-Matic.

That Hamilton is minty looking. Original dial?

As far as I know, yes!
Apparently he kept it well maintained (and wore it every day for 30 years). After he died my father kept it in a display case for 20-30 years, and before I started wearing it I got it serviced by our local watch shop, they didn't replace any external pieces. The lume has definitely seen better days, but other than that it's awesome.

I just realized, though, that that picture is from before the most recent service. It came back looking pretty much the same, just running better.

I have the utmost respect for anyone that repairs/services mechanical watches. I would love to do it but I have the fingers of a brickie and the shakes of a caffeine addict.

I went with the Marloe, not upset by the decision at all. In person it's a very nice watch, even in crappy artificial light.

40mm dia excluding crown, 47mm lug to lug, 10.5mm thick, 20mm lug width.

Yeah it's a Miyota 8n33. Hand wound so a little different.

The lume really pops.

Here's my 974 (parts movement) in a 3D printed movement ring. For some reason after I added a back lid to it the movement stopped fitting, gotta figure out what the hell I did. For now it's sitting in the original ring-only model.

Anyway, while I have to dial in the dimensions again, currently my case has a movement ring and a back, from there I need to make the crystal ring, put threading (or some other mechanism) on the front and back, and add a pendant. Soooo... guess I should order some crystals and stems.

im getting a big tax refund and im 99% set on buying a grand seiko snowflake with it but just to cover all bases do you guys have any suggestions for alternative watches in the same price range.

I dont really like rolexes except for the dominos pizza rolex. And ive already considered the speedmaster and decided I rather get the snowflake first.

Well for that much money there's many great choices imo.

BB58, Seamaster 300M, Aqua Terra, Reverso, maybe something Nomos etc. pp. But then again, the snowflake or any Spring Drive is probably the most unique and definitely a cool watch.

I always thought the Omega Constellation was pretty neat around that price point, and there's also the Grand Seiko SBGM241 Toge which has a pretty fantastic dial too.

There's a lot of nice choices around £5000.

That Zenith Lab compliant escapement is one of the most mechanically interesting movements you can get right now.

I don't really like the hands on the blackbay. I don't really like the aesthetic of dive watches and I already have an orient triton. I don't really like the standard reverso since square watches are not my thing and the red/blue dial mechanical ones I'm interested in are out of the price range. I like the minimalist aesthetic but Idk if i want to spend a lot on it especially when I like the junghans design better.

I'm sort of on the edge about the pie pan dial. Some days I look at it and I like it and some days I dislike it lol. If I'm getting a grand seiko I want it to have a spring drive especially for my first one.

I looked at some zeniths and if they defy lab or defy inventor were in the price range I would have probably gotten them. I looked at the zenith classic and I think the GS snowflake is a bit more interesting in both the movement and dial. And for the el primero chronograph I am planning to get a omega speedmaster next so I already have that covered.

Skip the speedy, get an El Primero and an Aqua Terra instead haha

Honestly it kind of sounds like you already know what you want. I'd just go with the GS.

Agreed about Nomos though. I mostly prefer Junghans in style if were going Bauhaus although I did enjoy the Tangente. Wouldnt mind a Lambda but would like it in a smaller case.

For me the Max Bill is pretty peak for minimalistic pieces. Love the thinness too.
