Horology on the LTT forum- A watch thread

15 minutes ago, spartaman64 said:

i personally hate watches with two hands. why pay extra for a high end precise movement and then have an imprecise indicator

Because technically a seconds hand is a complication and you arent supposed to have a complicated watch in dressy occasions. It was considered rude traditionally.

Also, I like simplicity.

I dont hate any watch. They have all have a place.

Actually, I take that back, I hate hublot.

yikes big if true. i never liked rolex's antics of restricting stock and forcing people to buy multiple watches before a chance to buy the watch they want.

Does that not have the Omega push-pull quickset? What movement is it? If its a 565 it should.

Because I dont need crazy complications and the only Patek I like is a Calitrava (and I already have watches in that style). Id take the Jules Audemars line over something like a Lange 1 or something from Glashutte.

Also because I love the design, I love Gerald Genta and this was his self proclaimed masterpiece.

Yeah, I've seen two versions, one with a sunburst green dial and one with a yellow dial.

Both are over £250, which is far too much for me to justify for a basic quartz watch.

Anyone seen this:

https://www.wristwatchreview.com/rolex-wants-to-take-a-microbrands-trademark/

Firstly - very well written and researched article.

Secondly -

I think Rolex's only bet here is to demonstrate that the term milsub was generic and widely used enough that it shouldn't have been trade marked in the first place. They have pretty much naff all chance of claiming it for themselves as well outlined in the article.

TBH that's still a win for them - they can slap Milsub on a Tudor and the Kiger pretty much instantly becomes a cheap homage/knock-off in the public eye except to a very very small contingent of microbrand officinados.

Thirdly - if I was Kiger I would be taking the huge cheque Rolex would probably offer me and retire to my own floaty Island.

Milsub was always a nickname. They never called them that internally, in advertising or had milsub on the dials.

That being said, Rolex has more money paid to retainers than Kiger gets paid a year so they can afford to push a frivolous lawsuit.
