Vegetarians/Vegans. [Poll]

Hello fellow LTT'lers,

i had a conversation with some guys on Facebook about the pro's and con's of being/becoming a Vegetarian/Vegan yesterday. Sadly it ended with some guy telling me to shut the fuck up without him even stating a single thing. They obviously were out of reasons for not being Veggy. I was the only Veggy/smart guy in that "discussion" btw.

So i thought, why not ask other intelligent guys here on the forums for their opinion? The whole veggy thing is actually slowly becoming a thing here in germany but i think its very different in for example the US.

I made this little poll for you to answer and i'd be so happy if you, in addition to that, state WHY exactly you chose your answer above.

Thanks and greetings,

Flo :)

I've been vegetarian for 1 year and I'm still going strong. Meat is not only cruel, but also a waste of our resources. Over 150 Billion animals are raised and slaughtered every year; this equates to LOTS of CO2 emissions.

Me being vegetarian gives me the right to waste lots of gas driving my 5.7L Hemi Durango, and yes I live in Minnesota

I would much rather have fun driving a powerful SUV than supporting the cruel slaughter of animals

What has everything I need to survive in it before being cooked?

A mammal.

Your move. (This is a half-joke, I'm somewhat serious.)

Vegan food is what my food eats to become food.

I love meat, i love dead animals and i will never stop eating them.

I don't always have time to study, but when I do, I don't.

I've been a vegetarian ever since I was young, my parents just raised me like that. Never tried steak or any sort of meat/fish.

I don't really have anything against eating meat, I wouldn't mind trying a hamburger someday.

I wouldn't mind being vegetarian, but I don't cook my own food, so I'm not.

By being vegetarian for me, that wouldn't mean not eating meat, that would be not striving to eat meat. If I go out or am offered I would accept.

now that I think about it I've never eaten a steak in my life, lol.

What? ... I don't even.

Another realization: Cows and other mammal farts are responsible for a large portion of gases emitted into the atmosphere. I eat them thus curbing their population. (Yes, even more so than cars are responsible for.)

That is sort of a misleading statement since their population wouldn't be so large if humans didn't breed them to be consumed, but I have a feeling their population wouldn't be very different if we didn't eat them and instead replaced all the farmland we use to cultivate them with a habit for them.

i.e. I don't think there'd be much of a difference personally. Unless we just killed them all and kept the farmland to ourselves. In which case, there'd obviously be a huge difference (cows being nearly extinct).

most extinct animals are animals that were not used for food by people hence fewer people found a use for them, eating a certain species of animal keeps people wanting to breed them which in turn keeps said species alive.

I like meat and I don't find anything wrong with it. plants are living organisms as well yet you eat those. I find the whole thing a bit silly to be honest. But whatever, to each his own.

I have no problems against other peoples views. You're free to eat what you want. I simply find meat too delicious.
If sometimes I don't feel like eating meat, I don't. It's nice having the option to eat whatever you want.

Maybe it's cheaper in your country. In my country pig is the cheapest thing you can get.

I think being a vegan is expensive. Being a vegetarian is cheap.

Being a healthy vegetarian is hella expensive (gotta get that unmodified, all natural, vitamin enriched lettuce instead of iceberg lettuce, and that craps expensive). I want to point out that vitamin enriched and unmodified are contradicting qualities.

Like, really, the cheap vegetables aren't usually healthy vegetables. AFAIK.

This is true. Where you live matters a lot, I'm sure.

it would be no problem for me to turn vegee. i know what i have to eat to get all the vitamins, minerals etc...

if we didnt eat meat, everything would be cheaper actually, and there would be more food

vegan doesnt eat any products from animals

vegetarian doesnt eat meat

and you get enough vitamin even if you eat very little of vegetable a day, diversity is the key

the problem with vegetarians and vegans doesnt lie in quality of food either. its b12 and iron

you dont need to trun into an obsessive with natural bio and eco food to be vegan or vegetarian lol

you just need to loop up what to eat to suppliment what you dont get, or get less
