Any Idea as to why this happened?

and the battery was replaced in dec 2019...

Image result for alienware 17 r5 laptop battery permanent failure

Is it a genuine battery or aftermarket? Seems highly unusual for an OEM battery to fail so quickly.

@Gorgon interesting! If nothing else, I would still buy a KO model (if in stock) for that crazy CAD performance. It's basically a power-limited 2080 for compute workloads.

If you have use for the specific workloads then sure! But do bare in mind it has a higher power usage

I looked at the KOs but after consideration would not recommend them for 24x7x365 operation due to the 1660 cooler EVGA slapped on them. Not a good option for longevity.

My EVGA 1060 SC 6GB has been folding for two years and when I replaced the paste the factory paste was still up to snuff even though this is the hottest running card and loudest card I have

It hurts to pay full price for a OEM battery (or a quality-identical one) but it lasts like it should. The generic ones almost never last like the OEM batteries.

Welp I already have an RTX 2080 which I bought back in January 2019. I think it would compare with the 2060 KO for editing in Premiere Pro because CUDA.

How do the professional cards perform in PPD compared to their similar counterparts? Do they show any major increase in compute performance?

It's obviously just the same as what you've got, and if one lasted only a year and a half and another 4 months you really should stop buying that junk...

well the servers appear to be either in poor shape, straight up running out of units, or both based on the stats and lack of GPU work units for the moment.  Are Advanced jobs a good idea for my well cooled CPU/GPU parts rig or...?

Typically most of the professional cards have more and wider/faster access to memory which F@H won't take advantage of.

Titans are a better value for folding than Quadro RTX models as it's all about the number of Cuda cores and how fast they clock on the Nvidia side.

Not too many people use the AMD FirePro or RadeonPro cards for folding. I have one for the driver stability in Professional Workloads and they're usually not as productive as similary priced consumer cards.

My "Elastic Folding" setup humming along nicely now. I'm using spot market instances on AWS. They are running in containers on ECS and g4dn.xlarge instance types with NVIDIA T4s. What is likely new about my approach is that more instances launch if the spot market price drops (right now it's at $0.15/hr) and instances terminate if the price goes up too much. Basically uses more power when it's cheaper.

I can't say exactly how well the system folds because, like all of us, it was waiting on WUs most of last night. I fired it up again this morning and it quickly grabbed a million points. I set up a budget in AWS so if I approach a threshold the system kills itself but right now it's very reasonable.

Possibly of note; the 500.000 points "minimum participation requirement" might be a bit of an issue now that F@H has quite a bit of trouble coming up with enough WUs to hand out --- and especially for LTT-forum members who signed up DUE to this event, as new donors don't get the so-called Quick Return Bonus (which can be 10x the base-credit for a WU) until they have 10 WUs total, which at the moment takes forever due to the WU shortage.

WUs seem to be getting more regular plus you only have to produce 35714 ponts per day to ht the requrement, which I think is fine.

You do realise that these need to be achieved over the two weeks of the event, not before the start time right?
