COD MW stupid large update files.

RollinLower

Am i doing something wrong? i've been getting 60+GB updates for a while now. it's almost as if it's downloading the entire thing over again.

what gives?

Knipsel.PNG.b04b95aa5f410dffb3200a33e0c937e1.PNG

the directory is up to 147GB, and i still have 60GB of download pending. when this has finished the game would be a whopping 200 GB! what the hell?

And here I am... still wishing they'd sell the Single Player campaign stand alone version for like 15$ so I can play it through a weekend and never go back to it :/

Any ways the latest system requirements stated on Activision's official page lists 175GB storage needed so it doesn't seem all that off.

Apparently there were many references to the original MW. I didnt get any of them cause this was the first one I played (used to only play the treyarch Black ops versions back when I was a scrub and though these games were the best)

The OG MW was also basically 480P ? (1080p, but relatively speaking it was made to run on the PS3 and xbox 360. The engine, maps, textures and mode/features were smaller and/or less)

The remastered version of the original Modern Warfare that came along side Infinity Warfare holds up extremely well... it was an excellent game, now this new one from the little footage I seen does look like it has different missions, game looks cool for a sit down or two on a free day.

But it's still primarily a competitive online shooter which is not my thing... Maybe I'll pick it here in a couple of years when it gets phased out and nobody cares as much to it but I stick to the wish they'd sell the SP on the side for those who only wanted it.

Either ways the game is indeed *huge* in size... not very in line with the usual e-sports games, even BF5 which looks as good as if not better only takes 50GB so I'll call it on poor optimization and excessively heavy textures / cutscenes.

Having individually "optimized shades" for campaign, multiplayer and Co-Op is understating it!

turns out the 60Gig update included new maps and a battle royale mode among other things.

meh, still shouldn't have been 60 gigs imo. but i can't rightly complain about free content

This is because you as consumers let them get away with it. They could do incremental patching as the games are already on always-up-to-date platform. Unlike what they were back in the days with CD and DVD games. But seems like they don't. New map is maybe 1Gb at most, new game mode less unless it brings full new versions of existing maps. Even then the delivery of patches could be done better, with core stuff as one package and other free stuff as other packs with their sizes clearly seen.

BF2 update 1.5 with new map was 2Gb. I think they didn't have incremental patch for that. But the next version was only incremental and something like 200Mb in size. Yes, it meant you had to download/install both if you reinstalled the game. But this seems more like patching is actually installing almost whole game again.

Yeah it's a pretty bad situation right now. I have pretty decent internet so downloading doesn't take too long. But imagine downloading a 60gb patch on shitty internet. That's just game breaking stuff, without even playing the game!

I always find it weird that the Blizzard client updated the game, then you load the game and the game says "We must restart to install an update"

It’s increasing in size. As it was only around 140 and fit on my m.2. Didn’t after the first 30h update. Then the 60g.

Yea, map and skins do take up space. Guess even when they give you all for free people will still complain.

All for free, eh? That's an interesting hot take. But people do have a right to complain if they don't like something. Maybe it sparks change. Maybe not.

I guess. That and an entirely new game type. Guess it shouldn’t take up any space. Pubg did this weekly. Cod game 7 years ago was 90 gigs.

Yea if they don’t like it they can take their ass to another game. Or ask that they make it so you have to buy each update/map pack.

I love this answer especially when we're talking about people who spent their money on said game. I could see if it were free, then that would be entirely different. And I'm glad that Activision aren't charging for rehashed maps like they normally do. That's a step in the right direction which promoted some change.
