Ethernet speed locked at 10 mbps

Davin Nguyen

I have been trying to change it so that my download speed isn't locked at 10 mbps. I've tried everything that i could possibly do, i got a new ethernet cable, messed around with settings, and i also tried resetting my router and pc. None of these worked, I don't know what to do.

What happens if you connect another computer to the same Ethernet cable? Do you see Gigabit/100Mbit or is it still 10Mbit?

I don't actually have another computer, this is my only one.

You could try another NIC. Be it PCI_e or USB.

You can also try booting another OS. If the link speed returns to normal we'll know it's a software issue.

What router are you using?

What ethernet card / PC / motherboard is this?

You're using a standard CAT5 or higher ethernet cable?

Have you checked in Device Manager > Network Adapter > Properties and looked at the 'Duplex mode' and tried setting it to a higher value?

I assume you've tried multiple LAN ports on your router to check its not that port on the router thats fault?

Theres nothing more you can do without either trying a different PC (maybe someone has a laptop you can borrow?), or getting another network adapter.
