do you think the 3470 is bottlenecking my 1060

I do not like the term bottleneck!

But yes

if your cpu has one core at 98-100% load and your gpu is at <70% load then you'r cpu is "bottlenecking" you a little, i have the same problem on my 2700x with 100% load and only 40% on my 2080

Anything i've written between the * and * is not meant to be taken seriously.

keep in mind that helping with problems is hard if you aren't specific and detailed.

i'm also not a professional, (yet) so make sure to personally verify important information as i could be wrong.

It depends on the game, if you like games like Civ 6, or Cities Skylines, or like older games such as CS:GO you will notice a difference, otherwise in most modern GPU reliant games, such as Destiny 2, the latest COD, Overwatch, Fortnite, and etc. you will only have minor improvements in the neighborhood of 3-5 fps at best.

Bottleneck is the best term we have for it but we should really be thinking in terms of “experience”.

Bottlnecks are purely about hardware, if you have a huge bottleneck but get the experience you want then it’s not a massive issue. Maybe you overspent on a component but it might still offer an experience benefit.

but is it bottlenecking?

Yes, your cpu is bottlenecking in any older and epsotr games

Yes.

On 8thread aware games you will bottleneck.

How much depends on the game in question.

AC Unity will 100% an Intel 3rd Gen Quad-core CPU, AC Syndicate fares a little better but Quadcore usages are 80-100%

Many games will do this to a Quad-core on a FASTER GPU pushing higher frames and a higher CPU usage.

I7 will cure MOST of it, but those 8 thread aware titles still use 65-100% of a Hyperthreaded Quad-core too...

Again, depends on the game.

BFV ruins 4c8T CPUs to 80-100% more often than not...

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
