It was a bad product from its very initial conception. 

Google is not concerned about making "good products",  it's only concerned about being the global leader in... everything that just remotely has to do with data and data collection. 

 

 

Of course for marketing they need reasons for people to actually get their products even when the benefits vs giving up privacy are extremely small,  see "Alexa", the spy that also can turn off your lights™

It's likely the Ultra just isn't designed to handle the heat generation that comes with that much data decode. It's also doesn't seem to have airflow at all, so it's safe heat removal ability is extremely low. A very minor overcapacity on heat generation would add up pretty quickly.

Well going by the launch I don't think the overheating issues will be a problem for long.

Let's see:

1) Stadia, frame rates and latency not as advertised

2) Game selection rubbish and expensive

3) Controllers are glued shut, impossible to repair

4) Chromecast Ultra's overheat, difficult to configure.

 

I hope Google realizes this has been an utter failure and they refund everyone who bought one.
