In editing, what is "possible" to do with a Ryzen 7 2700 and not with a Ryzen 5 3600

I'm doing a build for a friend, and I hesitate which CPU should I recommend him... He is mostly using his PC for gaming, but he'd like to use it without any problems for school (he is doing photoshop edits and maybe a few video editings), so I wanted to know at which point the R5 3600 can't keep up with the R7 2700.

2700x will beat 3600 in multi core workload, but 3600 will beat 2700 in multi core workload. If you are living in US, I would get 2700x instead 2700 since the price different is $20.

If Photoshop is the main software then the r5 3600 is the superior pick since pretty much everything on Photoshop is single core base.

I don't understand why people think current CPUs can't do something, like photo or video. That's simply not the case at all. It just takes longer.

And, really, since he's not doing it in any great capacity, I wouldn't worry about it.

Go with the 3600. It'll game better, and that's what he's doing the most.

for video editing 8 cores are better, even if the stupid adobe suite wastes 1 or 2 cores is better

 

if budget is limited, the 3600 is a great option

 

if your friend feels limited, remember that next year we should have a r7 4700 beating both cpus mentioned, so buy a decent otherboard that will support that one in the future and meanwhile find the cheapest one you can and he will be happy with that

 

wahtever you do, don't buy intel, the rumor is that in january more or less they will release i9 10 cores 20 threads and from there all will be multithteaded, so current intels are pretty much obsolete now, they will become competitive with ryzen again, in terms of same cores, same threads, not in price, intel is absurdly expensive most times

Yeah, I wasn't really saying it wouldn't be possible at all, I was basically saying at which point it's better to take a R7 2700 but yeah I understand you didn't get it.

Also, he just showed me his current build and I think every CPU will beat his, he currently has a Pentium so yeah I don't think he'll get picky about it lmao
