Best Ryzen 3600 Air Cooler

Stilg7

I'm wondering what would be the best air cooler for minor to moderate overclocking?  I have these three in mind so far:

-Scythe Mungen 5 Re.B ($47)

-Noctua U12S ($56)

-Noctua D15S ($71)

I'm not 100% sold on one yet and I'm open to anything. TIA

PBO already does this, and you'll basically get the performance you're after with stock cooling. For a stronger OC, go for the D15S, might as well go all out.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Have you tried using the stock cooler first?

The coolers mentioned are great if you're aiming for low noise but isn't necessary if you don't think the stock cooler is too noisy.

As an owner of both a 3600 and a 3700x...I can tell you without any doubt that the stock cooler on the 3600 is garbage.

Techspot put a good AIO water cooler on both a 3600 and a 3600x and they both PBO'ed to the same mhz. So arguably, the low end cooler on the 3600 holds it back to satisfy the price premium for the 3600x. It is kind of shady IMO

I put the stock cooler from my 3700x on my 3600 and the 3600 is performing much better.

For my 3700x, I bought the Arctic Freezer 34 duo. It is the best value to performance available. $40 on Amazon and it even came with MX-4 thermal paste

Most cpus are just dies that couldn't be used for higher end models. They're artificially held back to create product lines. It's not shady but is just what happens when most of the cost is in research and development as opposed to raw materials.

For a 3600, i recommend the u12s. I used it in my build and am quite happy with the cooling it offers. At 4.2 ghz all core OC and testing using intelburn software, it holds at 68deg c through 10 passes on high

The stock cooler.

Stock coolers are garbage on Ryzen 3000. There is no copper core/vapor chamber anymore. Load puts mine in the low 60c range with a hyper 212 Evo.

3600(non-X) uses the stealth anyway.yet some reported it throttles a bit under heavy load

The new stealth is not as good as the old stealth. Again, garbage inadequate cooler like what Intel ships with their CPUs.

The copper was only removed from the Wraith Spire and the newer version seems to perform at least as well.

Can you link any sources for that?

All I've found comparing the two is this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/acxul7/psa_new_wraith_stealth_fan_update_roughly_the/plai

It explains the changes that allow for shroud removal and better case compatibility but not cooling results.

The results were with an oc'ed 3600x instead of a 3600 and don't compare the newer and older Stealth coolers.

It's not unlikely the issues were due to bad oc settings as opposed to insufficient cooling since 71c isn't very high for load temps.
