Monitor resolution for photo editing?

OK, so I'm looking for a new monitor. I've given up on a glossy screen, but for a 27" monitor, do you recommend a 2k or 4k?

The 1080p resolution was a major step backward in screen resolution if you're old enough to remember the CRTs. The anti-glare screens are nothing more than a huge anti-aliasing filter to hide this. I'm ready to get back to better resolutions!

I would go for a 4k monitor.  I have one.  Not many problems for me but I did have to scale down the resolution because of the small text.  If you want to future proof your setup then get a 4k monitor.

I work with 1440p monitors both at home as well as at work, all of them being 27 inches. I'd say that's the minimum in terms of resolution at 27 inches. If you can afford a good 4k monitor with decent color space coverage, that's your safest bet.

Currently using a 32" $120 HiSense 720P tv for editing. Yes, I'm a horrible, cheap person...

My camera lens sees the present…

wouldnt you care about

accurate image colors (vs saturated colors for some consumer monitors)

      color space

      color calibration

      better panel such as IPS

      good contrast

      good black depth

      wide viewing angel

with resolution being just part of the equation?

a good monitor checks alot of the boxes for photo editing is,

I just purchased  the  BenQ PD2700U and is quite good. Calibration out of the box is ok but is better to buy a calibration device.  I would go for a 4K because if you use photoshop / lightroom you will have everything in 1 interface  and plenty of working space

I do portraits mainly  and I user lightroom / photoshop

At least 1440p but the highest you can afford. Though color accuracy and at least 99% sRGB coverage (after calibration) over 4k. Personally I don't see the point in AdobeRGB capable monitors: mostly everything else looks funny (especially on the web) and you will end up with a smaller color space in the end after all. The internet is still sRGB and most people don't have calibrated displays.
