Posted July 18, 2019 Hello everyone, I recently got my first paying customer that wants me to build them a 4k video editing rig. I have no idea if there is a standard for what I should charge him. Any tips?

I have no idea if there is a standard for what I should charge him. Any tips? Here in Florida, average hourly rates seem to center around $60-80 an hour with a 1 hour minimum charge. Since I'm a single person and don't really have business expenses (literally just run by word of mouth out of my office), I charge $45. Keeps business good and with how little I spend I can get one job a week and not need to even dip into my balance from my actual job. Add costs of parts, obviously Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only) Wall Of Fame (Informative people/People I like): @Glenwing @DrMacintosh @Schnoz @TempestCatto @LogicalDrm @Dan Castellaneta Useful threads: How To Make Your Own Cloud Storage Spoiler Guide to Display Cables/Adapters Spoiler PSU Tier List (Latest)- Spoiler Main PC: See spoiler tag Laptop: 2020 iPad Pro 12.9" with Magic Keyboard Spoiler PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gKh8zN CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz 12-Core OEM/Tray Processor (Purchased For $419.99) Motherboard: Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Formula ATX AM4 Motherboard (Purchased For $356.99) Memory: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory (Purchased For $130.00) Storage: Kingston Predator 240 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive (Purchased For $40.00) Storage: Crucial MX300 1.05 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For $100.00) Storage: Western Digital Red 8 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For $180.00) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 8 GB WINDFORCE Video Card (Purchased For $370.00) Case: Fractal Design Define R6 USB-C ATX Mid Tower Case (Purchased For $100.00) Power Supply: Corsair RMi 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $120.00) Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer (Purchased For $75.00) Total: $1891.98 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-04-02 19:59 EDT-0400 身のなわたしはる果てぞ 悲しわたしはかりけるわたしは
 Your customer agreed to pay you without knowing what you're going to charge them? Might want to double check with them so make sure they are aware that you charge labour costs as well, not just the cost of the parts, they might be expecting free labour. ◒ ◒
 I mean my last build took 100hrs plus because of complications with mixing computer componets, some of which were 10 years old, with modern hardware... yay
 They know I am going to charge them. What I am going to do is create a list of parts for free then if he likes it we will talk about my fee. If there's chance of getting additonal work, then something reasonable like $75 might make sense
 Posted July 18, 2019 It really depend what it the person budget is ... just minus around 50 bucks for labor if it system is pretty straight forward. I usually opts for a easy to build case(unless their want something specific) and air coolers. I found AIO is just take a bit more time to cable manage and install. To keep the build simple and build time short. I usually push for air coolers instead of AIO for reliability unless their are really keen on water cooling ... I usually do all my testing in portable linux for basic thermal and check all device get detected. Window install is pretty simple (plug in usb and install on drive - make sure only one drive is plugged into system. Less headache down the road), I usually don't setup windows unless they want to me to do it which will cost extra. As for licensing it really up to end user to pay for legit key or grey market or un-activated which most do for first few month if they budget is really tight. Magical Pineapples
