The 5700, with a 180W TDP, is competing with the 2070, not the 5700 XT, with a 225W TDP. The XT is simply a step up from that.

 

Whether it is 7nm or 12nm is irrelevant because at the moment, Nvidia does not have a 7nm to answer with. They are worthy competitors.

I called it a while ago, once they said they're working on cards below the VII, that you'll get Vega 64 performance, maybe better, just with better efficiency. There will be plenty of people buying them if 3rd party benchmarks check out..

I, for one, am happy to see a new card on the 2070 level for a cheaper price, even if it's only $50 cheaper so far.

 

If same price and same performance I would choose AMD. I've enjoyed their software and drivers way more.. I tried a 2080 FTW3 and 1080 TI, and I love my Radeon VII so much more.. Just a better experience, for me.. Everyone is different, I guess..

While I don't disagree, I'll say I'm disappointed that AMD isn't giving me a reason to switch back. I too prefer AMD cards, mostly due to software, and would love to sell my 1080 and grab one of these. Unfortunately there's nothing here to reel me back in. I remember switching from my FX 8320 to an i7 4790k because AMD had nothing that met my needs. After Ryzen released I sold my i7 for $300 and grabbed the 1700 for $300 and it DWARFED my i7, while using less power and producing far far less heat. Would love to see AMD do this in the graphics market.

It will be interesting to see how that shakes out. Unlike HEDT or server parts, this only has the mainstream platform dual channel ram. Now, they do have a ton of L3 cache which helps offset that, but it remains to be seen how it behaves.

 

I can see why they had to use Intel's HEDT 12 core part for the earlier comparison, but it also comes with more than what AMD offers, more PCIe lanes (even if slower ones now), more ram channels, and AVX-512 to name some differences.
