x470 with Ryzen 3000

How well do you guys think my Gigabyte Gaming 7 x470 will work with the Ryzen 3000, specifically the high end cpus like the 8 12 and future 16 core cpus?

Now Chipset is one thing, if the motherboard has the "quality" required for the higher SKUs like the Ryzen 9 3900X will depend on each particularly case.

At least my motherboard is supposed to have the best VRM and cooling of any x470 board as far as I know so maybe it will be ok.

MSI have the best VRM on MATX and ITX, and on par cooling or better cooling than the rest in that range.

They didn't even mention the MATX and ITX in their advice.

They could be the most honest at this stage.

From what I heard gigabyte said it should be fine.

MSI advices against using it on 450/470, but will support it.

x570 chipset is crazy. 11w power consumption. Close to laptop cpu’s Haha

But MSI high end B450/X470 boards have quite decent VRM’s tho

I have the crosshair vi and i believe they will give a bios update. It even has the 8+4 pin connector, so i don't see why it shouldn't support 3rd gen

MSI is probably either A- trying to sell more X570 mobo's at launch, and/or B- wanting to cover their asses if there is any unforeseen problems.  Asus, according to Linus, sounded pretty certain that their current boards will be fine.  (maybe re-watch his post AMD keynote video, I forget if he said Asus was confident in all of their AM4 boards, or just X470.)

Asus were bullish, MSI were conservative.

it is either VRM can't handle it, power delivery is too low, passive cooling not enough, or marketing

A- Marketing would be stupid as people get there hands on X470/B450 3000series combo long before MSI board reviews come out.

B- MSI hasn't gone public with that statement.

C- All partners have had engineering sample since late last year

Asus was talking about their X570 boards, not X470. Also, I think Asus is probably the one exaggerating here unless they’ve found Jesus and he told them to stop cheaping out on motherboard VRMs (remember Z390?).
