LTT Should Make a New Folding Recruit Video

Guys I've been folding since 2015 thanks to their folding video, in fact I joined the forum the same day I watched the video. I've seen a lot of people come and even more go. I feel that we've been losing a number of people in the last year or so and I feel LTT should make a new Folding@Home video. What do you guys think?

We had a Folding Month last November that @jakkuh_t advertised during WAN that got a lot of new folders. The incentive of a free GPU helped too.

Yeah because i don't know completely how to fold properly. Wouldn't hurt.

Which I wish I seen it as I'd love the badges.... we lack badges here in LTT sob

I believe that the coordinators are planning to do it again next November, so hopefully it gets advertised better. I don't recall if it was even pinned as a featured topic on the right side like the BOINC Pentathlon next week.

They should have badges for the next event, whenever it's held. They have already made the badges for being involved in future events so I can't imagine them not utilising them.

Yep. It's planned on being a reoccurring thing.

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about... this past year has been the most productive by a longshot. This year's monthly minimum (~2.2B) is quite a bit higher than the highest maximum ever reached before folding month (~1.5B). LTT's F@H is, although in decline right now, still better than ever - and I'm sure it'll be reinvigorated when November comes around again.

I'm thinking about running a summer folding sprint, wouldn't be entitled to any badges but could be fun.

Perhaps a spring folding event would be better as many of us in the Northern Hemisphere reduce production during the summer.

 

We could use a boost now as we're close to gaining a rank but as we've also slipped in production the next closest team is also out-producing us by a slight margin so gaining some ground would be a good thing.

 

And not to mention there's a new kid on the block set to overtake us right around when we'll get into 10th assuming we can keep up the current level of production.

I'd be willing to re-write my guides on how to monitor folding rigs but we also need a refresh on setting up folding rigs on Windows and Linux.

 

@Ithanul @TVwazhere perhaps could help with a Linux Guide, Ithanul for their expertise and TV and any other volunteers with limited Linux experience for testing.

 

@sazrocks might be able to share their experience folding in an Unraid container.

 

While the OpenMM 22 cores suggest that any Windows performance penalty may finally be overcome it will likely take some time to get the core fully tested. Of course, there is still the advantage Linux has in being able to disable or defer updates but it appears that Microsoft is considering relaxing Windows 10's forced updates.

Unfortunately no. I ended up just using a linux VM and passed through the card to that. That being said, it does look like it is possible, and some information is available on the unraid forum that should be helpful for anyone wanting to use docker for this.

When I say summer I was thinking the start of next month, gives us time to get everything sorted after the BOINC event. 

 

It's meant to be a challenge, so don't it when most people wind down seems like a good idea to me.

Great idea. Rather than focusing on overall point production perhaps we could run it in categories (CPU/GPU) with sub levels (single CPU/dual CPU, 1,2,3 ... GPUs or by point-levels (under 50k, under 100k, under 500k, under 1M etc,) and focus on efficiency rather than raw yields? Most Improved Yield as a percentage in a given class?

Personally I think raw yeild the best way to go as far as us recording points, anything else gets a little too complicated for a 'sprint' 7 day event imo.

I actually need to relook over the Linux guide I previously did up here for the forum.  Along with seeing if I can expand it to include more of the other distro branches.

Considering your summer = my winter, and I won't be folding during 40C ambient temperatures like the last event... Yes.
