TL;DR what are some hardware rediscoveries you've had, after long searches?

 

My brother was considering selling his PC so I was trying to find all the relevant details for a listing, when I reached a speed bump:

What on earth is his case?

I was pretty sure it was DIYPC, since I cheaped out for the sake of saving, and caught a good one on sale. However, I had no record on my Newegg account of the case model, I must have ordered it via his email instead. I searched everywhere, looking for "white PC with blue LEDs" in every way imaginable, on Newegg, Amazon, Google images, just couldn't find the thing.

 

Then, just a couple minutes ago, I realized I am actually smart (but only subconsciously) and save every PC build in a spreadsheet because I keep a record of my work.

I dug up the link and finally found this obscure wonder: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811353113R

I bought it for like $40 which was about 20% off, definitely wouldn't have been worth more (and I probably could have got better).

Similar stories are appreciated, a good hardware find is so satisfying.

Not hardware, but rather software. I'd tried figuring out the name of this game for a few years and wasn't able to find a single damn thing on it, and then LGR dropped this video and now I'm back to square one, but now I'm just trying to find a damn image of it lol

Back when I was in college I sold my PC and went to a laptop. Now several years latter I realize how much I miss that NZXT Vulcan case I had. I feel like I've been checking Craigslist and eBay for forever looking for someone selling one, but haven't found one so far...

Nidec Gentle Typhoon. People around me all strongly recommend that fan but they call it with its Chinese name, which of course returns zero results in the internet. I thought it was the EK Vardar, but then that doesn't have enough fan blades and is quite costly. Took me years to find out what it's actually called.

Not hardware or software but a song that was in my head that I hadn't heard in about a full decade.

All I remembered was that it was a Kanye beat and the chorus started with "You're my diamond girl", and sure enough, I found it by looking it up on Genius.

 

In terms of computer shit, though, I had been trying to figure out what model my 7850 was (all I knew beforehand was that it was a 2GB Sapphire model) and I eventually found that and a similar, older variant in both 1GB and 2GB configurations.

jokes aside, not sure how well known this is, but tips for finding songs from lyric snippits:

 

In quotation marks type the best line or part line you can remember,  when your search results come back with something popular e.g a recent kaynewest song and not the song you are looking for, redo the search only this time use the -kayne rule. then when it comes back and you discover something else unrelated use the same - rule to block it out, and keep going until you find the song you are after.
