Scariest thing you've done to your PC?

killcomic

Everytime I play with the guts of my rig, I get a few butterflies in my stomach and a little lump in my throat. Almost as if I'm about to accidentally kill my PC.

Having said that, the scariest thing for me that I've done on my PC was with my old Asus Maximus Formula mobo. I removed the north and south bridge heatsinks so I could replace Asus' pathetic thermal compound for some decent one.

The damn thing was like cement. I had to use a hair drier to soften it up and then I had to apply so much force to remove the heatsink that I was afraid that I would snap the PCB.

By the end, crap was everywhere and I was pretty sure my mobo had not survived. But when I put it all back together, it came back to life and the NB temp had dropped by a good 10-15c.

Anyway, that scared the pants off me. What scary things have you done to your rig?

I took off my NH-D14 and set it on the table. The moment I accidentally knocked it over was pretty intense. It fell on my toe but it was really the moment of realizing where the heatsink was headed was what got me.

Man, I got one of those. I'd hate to break it and break my toes at the same time!

Bent multiple pins on my 8350, then straightened them using the tip of a mechanical pencil (Thank you Linus), and it worked like a charm.

One day after get back my graphics card from RMA, I tried to unplug the fan connector on my graphics card to clean the fans and somehow I managed to pull the connector on the pcb almost halfway. Luckily I managed push it back in

When going to replace my pos Dell mobo I had to remove the retention arm and cover from the board because the cpu was stuck to the heatsink, then try to break the cpu from it because of the crappy thermal paste.

I worked on my pc while I was sick and my nose was runny... I thought I messed up my mobo, but biostar is awesome.

Other than that I'm fairly confident in my abilities so I haven't done anything else worth a mention.
