Protecting the kids,..!

Hey,

Is there some parets here?

Looking for some setup to protekt my kids from the bad stuff as good ass possible.

I'm currently running a VMware Whit Sophos UTM and web filtering but this is a enterprise sw, and not the best for home users.

Devices is running openVPN and tunneling all traffic through the webfilter if they are not home.

I want to make it clear Im not a parent, though I am an Uncle. Open DNS offer some filtering at the DNS level and its categorical based. So things like Malware, porn, etc. Though in order to use this you need to install software on one of the machines on the network. So Open DSN knows your IP address and you need to either use their DNS servers at the router level, which will put restrictions on the entire network or do it at each machine you need restrictions.

To me the best solution is to have the heart to heart with the kids. Explaining to them that certain sites are off limits. You may also make sure any devices they use are used in a public area of the house. This way they know they are being watched. But you have to understand rule 34 of the internet. You cant block it all, all you can do is minimize what they see and hopeful minimize the risk to your home network from infected sites. Also Windows does have some parental controls. You might also check your router, as some have the ability to block domains and some have the ability to block internet access to select devices based on time. So your kids cant use the internet when they are not suppose to. My sister uses this feature on the Google Mesh system she has to keep the kids from streaming past bed time.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I use the windows family account controls, works well enough. Has time limiters and both site or domain blocking function so not matter what device they log onto with their account it still blocks. (I have 5 children)

Doesn't Windows have a family kids account on there?

Yes it does and it works pretty well.
