Apple Sued After Magsafe Adapter Lights Owner On Fire

Must be your experience. Also you shouldn't be touching the cable unless you're winding it up. I think the real problem is that people yank the magsafe off their computer WITH the cable instead of grabbing the head of the magsafe itself, like you should. Plus you could... you know... .clean your cables once in a while to deal with the "react with sweat on your fingers" problem.

Or... wash your hands...

Not just my experience.

Sure, lets pretend it isn't a thing. or worse tell people to wash their hands?  Please.

I don't understand why it is hard for people to accept facts that right in front of them. Guess what people, there is no such thing as the perfect company, they are all lying criminals to some degree.  Get used to it.

Hey look! I can google too!!

?

Do people really need a guide to... replace a lightning cord?

Have you ever thought that maybe... just maybe... that people in general are harsh on phone cables but with android they can't complain about a "specific" cable because it's just a standard USB one? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

I have apple charging cables from 8 years ago still working fine, I have apple firewire cables from 18 years ago that still work fine. It's the person, not the cable.

Those only mention the connector failing internally, and can't complain with a cable for whatever other laptop or phone because most other manufacturers aren't putting how the cable looks before its function at the risk of insulation coming off and becoming a safety hazard. I've never had the insulation come off a USB cable, not even the cheap ebay ones.

It sure isn't the person when you have to do things like "just clean the cable and your hands" so the insulation doesn't fall apart.

It appears you can't google, None of those sites proves what I said or the sites I linked to wrong.

Why are you so determined to ignore reality? does it hurt you to think maybe apple have a shit product out there?

Anyone with a frayed cable from Apply simply does not take care of their cables.

I've had:

iPad since 2012

MPB since 2015

iPhone since 2015

Second iPhone since 2018

Not one single frayed Apple cable.

You might be lucky enough to have avoided it or you might be lying, but seeing as I have 3 off them from different generations that were all immaculately taken care of yet disintegrated just the same,  I call Bullshit to your accusation that I didn't take care of them.   It is a common issue and it isn't all that hard to find information about it.

this is a user caused error right? i don't see how apple would end up paying for any of her damages caused by her blunt misuse. that's like me suing a cookware company for burns i got after i slipped off a hot handle contact.

Details separate people.

You ppl don't know what users do with cables. Tangle them up super tightly so the cables actually bend at an angle on the charger, cord them around chargers or phones tightly, pull them etc. You could give them freaking 3x2.5 cable and they'd still manage to damage it.

I am sure there are a lot of people who do nasty things to cords,  But apple is by far the only brand of cable that has way more issues with the sheath perishing the way it does, usually with USB etc they just stop working or you have to wiggle it to make it work because they wear down over time.

Every single one of my Apple cables has frayed. And I've usually been the one to take very good care of my electronics.

Personally I have had magsafe adapter cables fray on me as well. Although usually it happens where the cable attaches to the adapter, not at the magsafe connection.

My wife's adapter had to be replaced because the cable was frayed. This happens because it is made to be wrapped around the little "legs" that pop out of the adapter, to be neatly stowable. The cable sits at a sharp angle when you wrap it, causing it to kink and eventually fray.

My adapter is also exhibiting the same behaviour. I have stopped wrapping it as a result, but this is clearly a design flaw.

As I explained above, this is per design that people wrap the cables tightly around their "legs" of the adapters. So this is a design flaw. Like this:

Interesting, I was given an old Macbook from a cousin, never really understood what the legs on the adapter were for, your attached image makes sense but it still doesn't seem like best practice. The adapter itself is too small so the cable is being wrapped very tightly and if the insulation on the cables are sub-par it's a recipe for disaster. Weird that Apple would recommend that too.

It's a good solution assuming you're intelligent enough to realize that bending anything sharply is horrible for the life of the thing regardless of material or quality. Leave a bit of slack before wrapping it and it's not an issue at all.
