Looks like next gen Ryzen won't be here for a while Bois

The only info we really got was a Cinemark score of it competing with the i9 9900k, and beating it!

It is confirmed that they will be 7nm so that's cool

 

What do you guys think? 

 

I hope the leaks are still somewhat true

Looks like more core versions will come out later and they are tuning voltages and frequencies

it was a wash really, 2057 vs 2040 isnt really much of a win. Basically a tie in my eyes. Also it was in the Multi Threaded performance.. not single threaded which is where AMD has always really lacked. Its still really to early to get hyped up about it to really know if its going to be as good as leaks/rumors are making it out to be.

Well, multi-threaded, sure, but they used to win because they had more cores (before 9900k). Now with the same numbers of core for Intel and AMD, those multi-threaded results do somehow speak about single-thread performance. It is a notable improvement over the 2700x which was scoring in the 1800s, with the same core count, so that does speak about single-core improvements.

 

But yeah, for the score... many original 9900k reviews had between 2050 and 2060, on stock clocks... so yeah, a wash, indeed.

That's all true, but you have to keep in mind what she said. Clock speed isn't final and will most likely get improved.

And even if it stays about the same, it still seems like a great CPU, if price will be at least 150€ cheaper than i9 9900k.

About single core performance ... well they tested it against CPU with same amount of cores. I would guess that if multicore performance isn't that different, same should be for single core performance as well.

i9 9900k scores around 190 cinebench in single core ... if overclocked Zen2 can get to 200 score, it will surely be my next buy.

 

Sadly we will have to wait for few more months before we get all specs and details, but I hope it will be worth the wait.

Totally agree with you on the scores being a wash though. I get similar variations between Cinebench runs on my own machine.

Well we dont know much yet about the chip, im sure they are working on new precision boost technology and such... only time will tell how it all goes and works. But I do agree that it does look promising and if its a good performer and gives that much of a boost, ill likely be upgrading my 1800x for a new chip this summer.

It's an early sample with non-final clocks, so given lower power consumption than Intel (as demonstrated) there may be headroom to turn it up to ensure they're ahead.

Exactly my thoughts ... if it's the same in multicore it should be very close to same results in single core also. Or maybe 10% differences at best because of HT vs SMT.

 

Remember this? Same amount of cores, it does have 9% better result on AMD in all core performance, but the same as Intel in single core.

So we should see something similar this time around as well.

That won't change much as the node is at its limit. 

 

AMD has a huge advantage with 7nm and their chiplet design. Its necessary because PCIe and DRAm can't shrink further.

We do not know much about the AMD right now..

For example: Do you know the clockrates of the AMD Chip?? Probably not.

With that naming, there are obviously other implementations for example on IBM's Power Archtiecture, you can find SMT4 or even SMT8 (=8 Threads per Core)...

I'm glad that they are delaying the release date.  I've been saving up for what ended up being Radeon VII for a few months, so if the reviews and what not end up positive then I'll be picking one of them up.  With the 3000 series CPU's coming out later, gives me time to save up.  Perfect timing for me. haha.

If I were you I'd buy a strong X470 motherboard and R5 2600 to bridge the gap until then plus by then I assume you could have saved enough money to purchase a Ryzen 3000 chip? That's what I'm doing at least.

You must be so young, to think that's a long time ?

You want an upgrade. I don't think you necessarily need one. The 4770k is still quite capable of pretty much everything.
