Amazon refuses to ship phones to Norway?

I tried .com, .co.uk & .de but all refuse to ship a fucking smartphone to Norway why? O3O

You can always use services like ShopUSA to get stuff from the US that wouldn't normally be shipped.

As for why, well, it could just be that shipping(+VAT) would cost so much that you may as well just buy locally.

Maybe because Amazon isn't a Norwegian company and it's unrealistic to expect an American company to ship everywhere? Probably would be cheaper getting it local.

Might be something to do with the battery? Shipping (rechargeable) batteries tends to be a lot more difficult.

I recommend you to buy locally whenever possible as our consumer protection laws in Norway is one of the best, if not the best in the world.

Also, if you buy from outside the country, shipping would cost more, and you would have to pay 25% VAT. If you use an European store, if the store does its job, you would only pay 5% more tho, as you don't pay the VAT in that country you are buying from.

 

And btw, if it's a third party seller on Amazon, its the third party that decides where it can ship, not Amazon (unless it's a more direct partnership)

Why would you want to buy a phone from Amazon in the first place? In Norway, you have powerful consumer rights. If the phone fails in the first 5 years from purchase, the store has to get it fixed/replaced or refund it. That's up from 2 years elsewhere in the EU.

i'm a small etsy shop and I ship to every country no problem....

Anyways, hey OP, know how much the phone + packaging weighs? If you don't use a shipping service, you could buy the phone, ship it to me, and then I ship it to you. It costs between $14 to $50 if it weighs under 4 pounds.

Might be something to do with EU/EFTA things. Germany (and UK for some time still) are both in EU while Norway isn't. While they all have some trade agreements, there might be some restrictions being applied that prevent or make it harder for Amazon to operate directly to Norway. Like that warranty thing for example. If Norway's demands all stores which offer shipping to Norway to follow on warranty rulings, Amazon may just have decided to save ( wouldn't be surprised) on possible fees and claims by not shipping problematic products.

Bluntly I have to agree with that.  Also, while I'd love to always say buy USA products, most countries have better user protections when buying stuff than we do.

If you do business in a country, then you have to abide by their laws. Given what people have said about Norway's consumer protection laws, that would probably be the biggest factor in not doing business there. Especially considering 5 year old phones would be considered ancient.

They are but then again all the cool stuff I want is kinda impossible to find in Norway.

Some stores actually only give you 2 years since they claim it is a "consumption item" and not a electronic device such as a dish-washer or computer. x-x

Either way, I don't see shipping of VAT costs being a factor, because that's on the buyer to pay. And I'm going to assume Norway also forces the company to pay for any returns.

The 5 years is according to a supreme court ruling. I'd like to see them try to oveturn that.

Trade tax is different when you are not in EU. It is defined by your country's reletionships beyound EU. UK is awaiting this. Well they made their choise.
