Vega II trademark revealed (and cool logo as well)

Source: https://wccftech.com/amd-radeon-vega-ii-7nm-gpu-official-trademark-spotted/amp/

Aside from the pretentious subtitle about pioneers, I'm pretty hyped about 7nm Vega.

Quote

AMD has just registered a new trademark which confirms their upcoming 7nm Radeon Vega GPUs. The trademark was registered around two weeks ago which is very recent which makes it seem like the new graphics cards would be arriving really soon to the market.

Obviously we're all waiting for CES for the real show, but this makes for a good appetizer. What I'm looking forward to is there being any kernel of truth to the Ryzen leaks, be it high frequency chips or some beefy integrated graphics for all the segments. Vega 2 should bring some nice efficiency improvements, hopefully they toned it down with the voltage this time around.

Quote

Till now, AMD has only officially talked about HPC/Datacenter parts under the 7nm Radeon Vega family. The family would feature the Radeon Instinct MI60 as the flagship variant which replaces the older Radeon Instinct MI25which utilized the 14nm Radeon Vega architecture.

I wonder how well the dual GPU solution went for them? The dual Vega 64 with tons of vram was pretty cool in my opinion.

Quote

It is likely that AMD can introduce Radeon Pro variants based on the 7nm Vega core architecture but gaming is currently out of the question because, given the pricing of the new GPUs, it is highly unlikely AMD would want to bring Vega to the gaming market. Also, Navi, AMD’s next-generation GPUs will be arriving on the desktop platform later next year so it’s likely AMD would want to keep Vega II just for the professional and data center markets.

Hope there's Vega for gaming, the one Volta card for consumers thing from Nvidia bugged me a bit.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Sauron'stm Product Scores:

Spoiler

Just a list of my personal scores for some products, in no particular order, with brief comments. I just got the idea to do them so they aren't many for now :)

Don't take these as complete reviews or final truths - they are just my personal impressions on products I may or may not have used, summed up in a couple of sentences and a rough score. All scores take into account the unit's price and time of release, heavily so, therefore don't expect absolute performance to be reflected here.

-Lenovo Thinkpad X220 - [8/10]

Spoiler

A durable and reliable machine that is relatively lightweight, has all the hardware it needs to never feel sluggish and has a great IPS matte screen. Downsides are mostly due to its age, most notably the screen resolution of 1366x768 and usb 2.0 ports.

-Apple Macbook (2015) - [Garbage -/10]

Spoiler

From my perspective, this product has no redeeming factors given its price and the competition. It is underpowered, overpriced, impractical due to its single port and is made redundant even by Apple's own iPad pro line.

-OnePlus X - [7/10]

Spoiler

A good phone for the price. It does everything I (and most people) need without being sluggish and has no particularly bad flaws. The lack of recent software updates and relatively barebones feature kit (most notably the lack of 5GHz wifi, biometric sensors and backlight for the capacitive buttons) prevent it from being exceptional.

-Microsoft Surface Book 2 - [Garbage - -/10]

Spoiler

Overpriced and rushed, offers nothing notable compared to the competition, doesn't come with an adequate charger despite the premium price. Worse than the Macbook for not even offering the small plus sides of having macOS. Buy a Razer Blade if you want high performance in a (relatively) light package.

-Intel Core i7 2600/k - [9/10]

Spoiler

Quite possibly Intel's best product launch ever. It had all the bleeding edge features of the time, it came with a very significant performance improvement over its predecessor and it had a soldered heatspreader, allowing for efficient cooling and great overclocking. Even the "locked" version could be overclocked through the multiplier within (quite reasonable) limits.

-Apple iPad Pro - [5/10]

Spoiler

A pretty good product, sunk by its price (plus the extra cost of the physical keyboard and the pencil). Buy it if you don't mind the Apple tax and are looking for a very light office machine with an excellent digitizer. Particularly good for rich students. Bad for cheap tinkerers like myself.

Logo looks really good! I'm always pro AMD innovating. It's only going to do good things for the market. Finally, Intel and maybe even Nvidia will have some competition. If they keep the price reasonable, and keep thermals in check, this will definitely be a good offer!

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

A good chunk of the power/thermals are solved by undervolting and allegedly AMD's next big GPU software release will include a tool for automatic undervolting. If it works properly, it could solve the widespread overvolting they do on every chip to increase yields and ensure stability - and all done in software.

Luckily for anyone not using an Apple computer, Apple likes to keep its hardware at least 1 generation behind, so they shouldn't end up getting the majority of Vega II.
