Want to learn any type of cyber security , ethical hacking? Where to start to learn

I want to become any single sort of well hacking or testing anything to do with hacking and I’m not meaning I want to become a hacker I mean I’m really into stuff like that and want to get a job in anything 

 

well shall I say mr robot got me into it LOL but I just asking where o start I literally know NOTHING ABOUT scripting or coding or programming whatever one it is 

 

any ideas? Online courses or videos or go to like pay for a course ? Again I no thing at all

 

i randomly 1 day went on YouTube and tried learning c++ and as I said I’ve never seen any code and I tried learning it that instant and hell was I just . Wtf and I gave up becuase I can’t get it ?

 

im guessing I need to learn kali Linux right? As it’s hacking stuff that’s what I want to learn and stuff get a job 

 

I know it’s like a really common job and I no nothing so everyone is going to be better than me at getting a job in that but I Realllly want to learn but my college don’t have any damn courses on anything like that or well I don’t really know what to look for ? What course is kinda best for like idk hacking job or penetration testing whatever anything like that what course ?

I was sort of under the impression there was not such thing as "ethical" hacking.

there's companies that pay people to find security holes.

 

for example, this door would be ethical hacking, in a very non-technological example:

i found a way to open a secured door, i told QA, QA solved the issue.

I would love for a teacher to use this demonstration in class.

 

As far as learning hacking goes, the first step would probably be to learn the skills that will be used. Hacking isn't necessarily a skill in and of itself, rather the use of different skillsets for the purpose of cracking security. Programming would be a good start.

the word "hacking" doesnt directly point towards anything of bad intent, or even anything digital. a "hack" is an unusual solution for a problem, "hacking" is finding unusual solutions to problems.

 

you could bust an access control secured door in order to get at whatever is in this empty storage room, or you could think outside the box, use a piece of scrap cardboard thats laying around, and just open the darn door.

in essence, the only skillset a hacker requires, is exceptional free thinking.

One other term I've seen to refer to breaking security would be "cracker", which I think to be a bit more accurate, though is seldom used.

Like some have said, learning how to program firstly would be a great start. You'd be hard pressed trying to break into something, ethical or not, without even knowing the basic principles of how it works in the first place. Social engineering, programming, and common sense are three good building blocks.

There's tons of ways into knowledge. Start off with just reading all the things, then tinker with all the things - and keep learning. There's a show on youtube that keeps it in usual normal termology, go check them out

Yes, there is. Law abiding investigator / detective / engineer / curious / fiddler ( / I can go all day here..) is possibly more accurate. Hacking does not equal illegal.

I can agree with possibly dubious. But creating a straight line to illegal does not play right for me. I might be too old, and I might blame not being a native english speaker - I will be steadfast on this and lean back on the original intent of the word in technical terms (reference should have been inserted here).

Would also suggest playing around with some of the tools in Kali Linux, learning how they work, what they do, and going about recreating some of their features in programs of your own.

Okay so the word "Hacking" today definitely carries a modern concept of being a malicious or devious act but that was not always the case when the term first came about after a group of I believe MIT students figured out how to modify train signaling posts with frequency modulation. A "Hack" was considered any act that used a technique or technology to achieve a goal, configuration or use that was unintended by the original creator. As time went on and people started to associate hacking with malicious intent, the hacking community at the time actually coined the phrase "cracking" to combat the media's negative view of their hobby and try to relabel themselves as different from the malicious individuals. But beyond the origins of "Hackers" how do you begin to become one, first let's say it is not an easy task. Any Joe schmo can go ahead and break a system either by idiocy, intent, or dumb luck but a hacker is different a hacker attacks and destroys with intent and the knowledge specifically of how a system works by analyzing how that system works they learn where the weak points are and how to exploit said weak points for their gain. With that you have to understand a hacker is someone who is EXTREMELY knowledgeable in the way most computers work. While from a career perspective most white hat hackers (the good guys) typically major in a few fields true hackers try to learn everything from networking, coding, physical security, social engineering etc. So the best way then to become like Elliot Anderson or Mr. Robot is to get gud son. Start small learn how to program. Programming is one of the corner stones of a hacker's toolkit, its what separates the true hacker from a script kiddie. It may not be easy and you may fail a hundred times before you can write your first program but just push towards it, if this is sometime you really want to do you have to dedicate time to it.

You can literally become a CEH or Certified Ethical Hacker. A large company can contract you and you pen test their stuff and you report the holes and flaws before someone with bad intent does first. So OP I would read the CEH book and try for a cert, also just play around with tools in Kali and get familiar with how to work your way around, also set up a network at home you can play with so no one get mad

There's two things at play here: You have to be very knowledgable about whatever kind of cyber security technology you want to focus on. Are you reverse engineering processors? Are you breaking into smart TVs? Do you want to do Web based security?

The other thing is that you have to be very, very, very ethical. You will be playing a world where saying the wrong thing can quickly and easily ruin your life. There are various laws and procedures that must be followed, to protect yourself and others. Don't do what I did and get kicked out of university for finding a massive security flaw in the electronic door lock system of the school. 

The first step towards figuring out where systems are broken is understanding how those systems work, and for computer stuff, that requires alot of background knowledge.

For future reference, the term you are looking for is White Hat hacking.

Hacking can be as low tech as finding the sticky notes under the table with the passwords on it. You can do some social engineering aka lie on the phone or in a person to convince someone to leak the credentials. If you want the Hollywood like stuffs, try going to the dark web. Genuine real life cyber criminals are selling their hacking software there.

as stated before, the only skill is free thinking.

 

a normal employee would forget his badge inside, and ask a collegue to badge him in, i'm the kind of person that would take a scrap piece of cardboard and "badge myself in".
