This comment is in regards to the GTX 1070ti video and the response to the quality of the upload.

 

Do the attention span of a month kids who watch your videos even care about the content? Linus you wanna know why your channel is losing views? just do the research on an entire generation of kids, nothing stays as popular as it did even 10 years ago. unfortunately the demographic shown in your algorithm does not take into account the fact that a lot of these users watching your videos are also using an account created by a parent and modified to soot the preference of the user. Youtube looks at your channel not as a How to, but as something to direct kids and teenagers in the up next feed. i had to search your channel out just to find it again after creating the account, and i was subbed to you in the early days. In short. Youtube sees you as someone that appeals to a young generation. I personally tune in to keep up to date with whats new, im not here to insult you or demine your videos, but read the comments and you will see not by just the comment but by the responses they get from the people that sub to your channel. 85% of them have nothing to do with the video at hand.float plane at the very least will help separate some of the mature audience from the immature crowd giving us a chance to speak out mind and have comments seen.

I agree with this, that and the fact that TechQuickie and and the fun channel are under seperate accounts. Either way, I don't think Linus is hurting.

Your right. im not thinking on a financial standpoint. what i meant was longterm respect in the field he's in. its hard to take him for more than a youtuber when his audience can define him. I know better, but still it's kinda true.

I think LTT is doing what other channels are trying to do, and that is not rely on YouTube for income. After the adpocalypse, huge channels like LTT, PhilipDefranco, and Casey Neistat are branching out to find other income sources other than YouTube. LTT has Floatplane, PhilipDefrance has Patreon, and Casey has a contract with CNN. 

 

So really, it doesn't matter. I'd be willing to bet that Linus's bottom line is doing just fine, if not, thriving.

Losing views? Where? LTT's subscriber count is at an all time high and most of their videos get anywhere between 500k and 1M views on average. As for youtube comments, if you want real discussion on the video come to this forum, because youtube's comment system has been broken for years, and that is not LMG's fault. Every large channel has this problem.

What do you mean with "more than a youtuber"? What do you think his "field" is? He is a businessman and an entertainer and he mostly stars in videos about technology, very successfully I would add, what else is there to say? If you think his skill as a system builder is in any way relevant in the industry as a whole, you're delusional. Knowing how to build a pc is not what made him successful. His real talents lie in being a hard worker, having a good sense of business and being great in front of a camera.

LMG hasn't depended exclusively on youtube revenue for years now, with sponsor spots and paid promotions making up the majority of their income. Floatplane is just starting so I don't think it makes up a significant portion of their earnings yet.

And let's be honest, building PC's is adult Legos. It's one of the least impressive skills you can have.

You'd be surprised. It is such a basic skill for us, but I work in IT. The average consumer don't know how a battery works, and are completely astonished by people who build their own computers.

No. That's not my point. Most people are overwhelmed with the concept, but if you actually show them how components plug in, it's fucking brain dead simple. Do people find it amazing? Yes. Is that purely because they've never seen it happen? Also yes.

The IT industry is mainly for companies that aren't just about tech or have too many responsibilities where they can't put all their focus on their tech. Getting paid $40,000 to work with a variety of systems (hardware fixing, implementing new software, updating computers, logging and tracking errors and bugs in the systems) and up to $120,000 or more to manage an IT department is all fair game.

People trying to just build computers for a living is a dead job unless you have certain skills, but IT is not. IT is FAR more complex than System Building on a basic level. Now if you have access to wholesale parts, can build a pretty sick hardline setup, slay in the cable management game, and know your shit about overclocking, then it's a pretty profitable job, but you still need to work your ass off for marketing unless you can get sponsored. Even then, you can't really be sponsored by a brand because then you'll likely only be able to use their parts and your audience will shrink.

On a separate note and in reply to OP, I suggest you pay for FloatPlane. The audience over there is pretty informed and can actually hold decent conversations. YouTube comments are cancer, and I am blown away that YouTube is removing their paid content feature when they could likely profit quite a bit from it (as long as the creators use it properly).

I don't buy it 100% as Dave2D has grown from 200K subs to just about a million in a couple months and his thumbnails aren't clickbait, his videos aren't filled with sexual jokes, he also doesn't make stupid videos that have no point. The only thing that they share in common is he uses !!!! in the video titles and questions that might be a tad click baity but it also isn't in all caps.

ok first off, im pretty sure a large majorety of this forum is people under the age of 18, so kids and teens, and YT its probably even more kids and teens. the grown ups have mainly realized that this chanel dosent provide a good source of anything but somewhat enjoyable content and is pretty shit with information content. i still watch because some of the shotgun pellets they call jokes actiually hit the right spots and cause some entertainment and for some of the projects they do, like the table was pretty nice and the DIY heatsink was somewhat enjoyable. I honestly dont think this comunity has much impact beyond maybe triggering a response video like the clickbait thumbnails one, in which they made some promises that led to jack shit basically. thats about the impact i think we have here on the forum. they might listen, and feel like they take us into consideration but nothing really changes tbh. anyway as for the maturety of the audience wellcome to YT, a bunch of kids. thats not going to change any time soon. Floatplane might grab some of the mature people because they have the money but all they get are some exclusives that i personaly could not care less for, you might be able to have more of a discussion in the comments but honestly just go on the forum here for that

I can't agree that LTT's quality and content have gotten worse. They definitely have lost their old feel, but the content itself is very informative and majorly neutral. Though I wish they went into more detail on some things, they have a lot of high-quality content that they all pump out. It's also usually unique and very interesting, it's just the audience that kinda sucks sometimes. It's really because a lot of that part of the audience is uninformed, ignorant, and immature. There's still a majority of the audience that is informed and mature, but then when we try to have a constructive conversation, there's always someone that flips it.
